Reno 7s delivered more action than I expected from a high variance slot over 200 spins. Ok, the win rate was lower than I expected – just 22 winning spins (11%) and the Wheel of 7s Bonus only triggered 8 times (4%) but when it did the wins were good. They included payouts of 12x twice and 7x 3 times and twice the Wheel triggered 15 free spins. Those free spins rounds brought up wins of 28x and 16x.

In short, although overall I was just into negative RTP this was a really fun slot to play. The action is simple and the win rate not spectacular, but the main Wheel feature dropped regularly enough, and produced big enough wins, to make it worth sticking around for.

An 80s-Style Retro Slot With Neon Reno Backdrop and Synth Soundtrack

Quickspin have veered of course from their usual design style for Reno 7s. This is a studio that is known for its fantasy fairy tale games with plenty of features and slick, instantly recognisable illustrative style and pastel colors.

But for Reno 7s everything is much simpler.

Reno city skyline provides the backdrop, drawn in an 80s style with lots of neon and bathed in a pink sunset. It’s all a bit reminiscent of Miami Vice or other 80s US shows. Meanwhile, the reel set in the foreground is more like an old-fashioned Wheel of Fortune game. Then, in the free spins round the action moves to the Reno strip, with hotels, bars and casinos in the background. Despite its simplistic design, the game’s style grew on me, helped by the funky synth track in the background for added atmosphere.

On first impressions I wasn’t expecting too much from Reno 7s. Having got used to a more sophisticated production style from Quickspin I thought this game was going to be a low-grade retro slot, but it proved me wrong. After a few spins the visuals and soundtrack grew on me and Reno 7s showed itself to be pacey game that packs a punch with its two simple features that can fast track you to the 7,777x jackpot with just one spin of the Wheel! The volatility is high of course, and the hit rate low, but with a 5p minimum bet Quickspin have made this game accessible to anyone who wants to have a crack at unlocking its riches.
