Theme and Design
An Epic Safari Slot With Great Photos and Stunning Backdrop
Serengeti Gold takes place against a truly epic backdrop of African Savannah, blazing blue skies and vast grasslands. You can feel the heat coming off it! The floating reel set is stacked with big six animals in picture form and a pleasant African drum soundtrack accompanies your spins. If you enjoy Safari slots for the audio visuals then you’ll like this one, it’s more than a match for the competition.
RTP and Variance
Serengeti Gold has an RTP setting of 96.1% which is solid for a video slot and the same as others in the Gold series from this provider. It also retains the high variance game engine of the others so it will be a volatile play.
Maximum Win
Disappointingly, the maximum payout from Serengeti Gold is just 2,500x. That is much less than Emerald Gold (25,000x) and Western Gold (10,000x). If that puts you off, try checking out our list of slots with the highest maximum win.
Symbols and Paytable
The game plays on 5 reels with 3 rows on each. The objective is to land 3 or more identical symbols across one of 25 paylines fom left to right, starting at the left most reel.
There are 9 symbols on the reels. Low payers are the cards, Jack, Queen, King and Ace. These are valued at from 0.2x for 3 Jacks up to 3x for 5 Aces. Premium symbols are the animals - buffalo, leopards, rhinos and elephants. These are valued at from 0.5x for 3 buffalo up to 20x for 5 elephants.
There is also a lion that represents the Wild and subsitutes for all pay symbols to complete paylines AND pays 1x, 10x or 20x for 3, 4 or 5 on a line.
Features and Gameplay
Serengeti Gold is not a feature-packed game but rather focuses all its power on two bonus rounds, both of which most regular slots players will be familiar with – free spins with multipliers and Just For The Win’s own Link and Win. The latter has the potential to be the most lucrative we are about to find out.
Free Spins and Multipliers
The free spins round is triggered in the standard way by landing 3 or more scatters on reels 1, 3 or 5. Those who like a bit of added tension in their gameplay will appreciate the addition of a bonus wheel at this point, required to decide how many spins you will get. It can be anywhere from 10 to 25 and comes with a 2x or 5x multiplier applied to all wins in the round.
This is standard stuff, but we enjoy that fact that it is spiced-up by the chance to re-trigger by landing 3 or more scatters again during the round. If this happens, there is no wheel spin. Instead, you receive the same number of spins and same multiplier value as you got at the start of the round.
Link and Win Feature
The other feature, and the highlight of this game, is the Link and Win. Here you’ll need to land of the 6 gold disc symbols. This gets you 3 Link and Win spins. Now, the bonus icons that triggered the bonus are held and only more bonus icons and blank spaces can drop onto the reels. If a bonus icon lands, it locks in and the re-spins counter sets back to 3.
All bonus symbols on the reels in the Link and Win Re-Spins represent either a value of 1x 20x or a jackpot. The MINI and MAJOR icons give you a jackpot prize of 30x or 100x respectively, whilst the MEGA jackpot is only triggered when the entire reel set is filled with bonus icons.
Once the re-spins run out OR you fill the entire reel set with bonus symbols, then the round is over and the payout calculated.
Final Verdict
Due to it’s significantly lower max win Serengeti Gold comes across as the least appealing of the three Gold slots from Just For The Win. However, as our testing session showed, it’s not one you should overlook too hastily. The regularity of Lion Wilds means you can score some good wins in the base game whilst the Link and Win feature, though far from original, can still pack a good punch. And all wrapped up with really high quality Safari sound and visuals!
Testing Notes
I played 200 spins on Serengeti Gold for free at Casumo Casino to test the game and this is what happened.
- Stake Size: £1
- Start balance: £99,999
- End balance: £99,989.20
- Biggest Win: 44x
- Free Spins Round: 1
- Link and Win: 1
- Session Time: 15 minutes 37 seconds
Despite its high variance, Serengeti Gold didn’t hold back and there were a few good wins over 200 spins. The Wilds helped produced wins of 12x, 15x and 31.4x in the base game. The free spins round dropped once, producing a win of 31.4x from 12 spins and a 2x multiplier, whilst the Link and Win feature also triggered once to produce a 44x win with all but 3 positions on the grid filled with bonus symbols.
Overall my balance was down but the game gave more than a taste of what it can deliver when the reels land kindly for you.
