This was a fun slot to play but it can be very frustrating too. The best stuff happens when the grid expands to its furthest edges, but that rarely happens. Instead, on most occasions it teases you with a couple of consecutive wins before it dries up and the active grid shrinks back in size. Nevertheless I did manage to get to almost full grid size once, opening up 360,000x paylines and scoring a 22.7x win, shown in this screenshot.

Space Miners Dream Drop is an eye-catching slot game that fans of Gigantoonz will feel, well, right at home playing. The graphics are startlingly similar to the Play n Go titles but with a Relax Gaming flair that gives the game its own identity. The background visuals are stunning, with glowing galaxies and space debris sat behind the rocky play grid. You might already have played this game in it’s original version, without the progressive. In which case you will notice that the design is exactly the same!

Space Miners Dream Drop has an uncommon grid configuration, in that the blocks that surround the initial 3 row by 6 reel grid can be exploded (in true space mining style). As these blocks are blown out of the way, the grid expands to a maximum size of 10 rows. With it, the paylines increase until there are 1,000,000 of them. Wins require a minimum of three matching symbols on three consecutive reels, regardless of which row they’re on.

There are 9 different pay symbols, plus a scatter and a wild. The low value symbols are the gems, which are all valued at 0.1x your bet for three, up to 0.4x your bet for 6.  Premium symbols are the aliens. These are valued at 0.2x your bet for 3 of the pink and blue ones, up to 1x your bet for 6 of the orange and green aliens. The purple alien is the most valuable of all, worth up to 5x your bet for 6 symbols.

Wild symbols can appear on any of the reels and substitute for any pay symbol to complete a payline.

The Dream Drop jackpot feature is clearly the most exciting feature in this game, however, the expanding grid is a nice touch too. Let’s take a look at all of the features in a little more detail.

Blockers & Power Ups

As with other grid slots from Relax Gaming, like Cluster Tumble for example, central to the gameplay in Space Miners is the expanding grid. To begin, there are 6 reels and 3 rows. Above that you’ll see 4 rows of stone blocks, and below, another 3.

Each time a payline is completed then a re-spin is awarded. But first, blocks adjacent to winning symbols are removed, increasing the number of active spaces and win ways in play. If more wins are created, then more blocks are removed and another re-spin is triggered.

This process repeats until there are no more wins. At which point, the grid re-sets to its original size. At its biggest, 10 rows are revealed on the grid, and over 1,000,000 win ways.

But that’s not all. You’ll also spot ‘Power Up’s embedded in some blocks. These are special tools that take out entire rows or grids in one go when the block surrounding them is destroyed.

There are 4 types of Power Ups.

Horizontal ones destroy all blocks on the row they are on. Vertical ones destroy all blocks on the reel they are on. Crosses destroy blocks on their row AND reel. And 3×3 Power Ups destroy all blocks in the surrounding square area. The red arrows point in the direction of the blocks to be destroyed.

Free Spins

The scatter symbols are UFOs in this slot and if you land three of them anywhere on the grid then it triggers the free spins feature. You get 6 free spins as a minimum and an additional 2 spins for each and every Scatter symbol that you land while playing. 

A key point here, and a big advantage is that blocks that you destroy during the free spins rounds remain destroyed for that game, only returning when the free spins are over. This makes it easier to clock up big wins.
