Valley of the Gods 2
By Yggdrasil Gaming
Valley of the Gods 2 by Yggdrasil is the sequel to the popular 2017 release Valley of the Gods. It is an Egyptian-themed game with 6 reels and an asymmetrical row configuration with blocked rows on each reel. Every win removes blockers and triggers a re-spin until no wins occur or all blockers are removed, triggering a new game phase. In Scarab Collections re-spins continue, extra lives are added, and wild reels and progressive multipliers all come into play.
This superb slot has a medium-high variance and a top win of 6,423x. Spins start at 10p.

Theme and Design
A Stand-Out Production With Unique Reel Configuration and Desert Setting
Yggdrasil are up there in the top tier of game producers for me so it’s no surprise that the production in Valley of the Gods 2 is of a very high quality. Thanks to its asymmetrical reel configuration and desert-temple setting, the game has a unique and eye-catching look about it. Once you start playing the animations are smooth and the progression through each phase of play is superb. In particular, the transition into the Scarab Collection part described below is brilliant. Day changes to night, scarabs fly off the reels to be collected in meters and there is lots of glowing and flashing along the rows of symbols with each win. It makes for a thrilling game where audio visual style matches the cumulative features that unlock the big wins.
RTP and Variance
Valley of the Gods 2 has an RTP of 96.3% which is just slightly above average for a slot game and gives me no complaints. However, if you prefer to play at higher RTP there are a few other Yggdrasil games you could try like 9K Yeti (97% RTP), Wilhelm Tell (97% RTP) or Baron Samedi (97% RTP).
The variance in Valley of the Gods 2 is medium-high, a little above the level of the original game Valley of the Gods. That might make wins a bit harder to come by but suggests on occasion the game might deliver some big wins when the Scarab Collection phases is in play and multipliers and Wild Reels are unlocked.
If you like this type of high variance gaming you could also try Vikings Go Beserk Reloaded or Champion of the Underworld by the same provider.
Maximum Win
The highest payout is 6,423x, which is Ok, but not great. There are many high variance slots with much higher maximum win potential. From Yggdrasil you could try Flogageddon with a 20,000x max win, or Hyperburst with a 12,800x top win.
Symbols and Paytable
Valley of the Gods 2 has a unique configuration of 6 reels with varying rows on each. From your first spin the set up is 1-2-3-4-5-2. But this can expand to 3-4-5-6-6-8 as each winning spin removes blocker symbols to open-up extra rows. This increases the number of paylines from 240 at the original configuration up to a maximum of 20,160.
The pay table is made up of 10 symbols. The low payers are the cards, 9 though to Ace. These are valued at from 0.2x for 3 9s up to 4x for 6 Aces. The premiums are the Egyptian Gods, namely Horus, Anubis, Bastet and Sobek. You might have seen the Eye of Horus symbol and jackal-headed Anubis in other Egyptian themed slots, so there is some familiarity here. The range of values is from 1x for 3 Horus up to 16x for 6 Bastets (the cat, for reference!).
Other symbols include the Wilds, which ALWAYS appears stacked and substitute for the pay symbols to complete win lines. These will STICK on the reels until they form part of a win.
Features and Gameplay
Valley of the Gods 2 follows a classic high variance gameplay model. Successive wins bring re-spins, more rows, more paylines and more features. And if you can keep your sequence going, you’ll push on towards that 6,000x + top win.
This is how it works.
EVERY WIN Earns a Re-Spins With More Paylines!
The core part of the gameplay here is the re-spin feature.
EVERY win triggers a re-spin. But before it can happen, blockers on each reel are removed to reveal more rows and subsequently activate more paylines. The number of blockers removed is the equivalent to the number of symbols in the winning line that triggered the re-spin.
If another win is triggered by the re-spin then the process repeats. The affect is to open up more and more of the reel set with every re-spins giving you more paylines and more chance of winning.
Scarab Collections With Multipliers And Extra Lives
The ultimate goal is to unlock ALL the blocked positions on the reel because that takes you into a new phase of the game called Scarab Collections where you can build multipliers and earn extra lies to absorb and losing spins.
When Scarab Collections starts you are awarded one extra life and a 2x multiplier, displayed in meters to the left of the reels. The extra life means the round continues even when you have 1 non-winning spin.
And after each win during this phase of the game, colored Scarabs fly off the winning symbols and further fill the 3 meters to the left of the reel set. They earn the following extras:
Collecting FIVE red scarabs earns you another extra life.
Collecting FIVE blue scarabs gets 1x added to your win multiplier
Collecting FIVE golden scarabs gets a random wild reel added somewhere on the reel set.
The round ends when you have a non-winning spin where no more extra lives are available.
Final Verdict
Valley of the Gods 2 is a well devised slot with a clever progressive mechanism that makes it difficult to put down once you get started. I found the gameplay to run smoothly and the wins, whilst volatile, were regular enough to make the game fun to play. The main Scarab Collection feature is well configured and it clearly has the potential to go big if you can earn enough extra lives and land a few wild reels at the same time. This, plus a solid 96.3% RTP and 6,423x potential, make Valley of the Gods 2 a worthy sequel to an already popular slot.
Testing Notes
I played 200 spins on Valley of the Gods 2 for real money at Duelz Casino to test the game and this is what happened.
- Stake Size: £0.1
- Start balance: £70.48
- End balance: £68.20
- Biggest Win: 40.2x
- Scarab Collections Feature: 6
- Session Time: 21 minutes 31 seconds
Success in Valley of the Gods 2 is measured in how often you can unlock the Scarab Collections feature and how far you can get once there. I unlocked it 6 times in 200 spins (3%). That’s not a huge amount but there were enough near misses and wins were regular enough in the first phase of the game to keep things interesting even when waiting to unlock the full reel set. Once into the Scarab Collection the biggest win I scored was a 40.2x. I also scored a 28.2x, a 12x and 3 wins of less than 10x.
I found that the Scarab Collection phase can be both fun but and very frustrating. It takes a while to unlock but once there you can get wiped-out very quickly if you don’t collect any extra lives. On the flip side, once on a good run of consecutive wins where extra lives are in the bank and the multiplier is growing – I maxed out at 4x only – then things get exciting and its clear to see where this game can take you on a good day.
