Testing Notes: Here’s What Happened When We Played Wild West Buffalo Blast
IMPORTANT: To give you an accurate assessment of the games we review our writers play 200 spins. Whilst this is a useful tool to help us review games and to give an example of what might happen when you play, keep in mind that 200 spins is only a very small sample and cannot be used to accurately predict what might happen over another 200 spins. The outcome of all slots play is always random.
Boom Or Bust? Our Session By The Numbers
I played 200 spins on Wild West Buffalo Blast on Fantasma Gaming’s test server prior to release to test the game. This is what happened.
- Stake Size: 1
- Start balance: 10,000
- End balance: 10,021
- Win Rate: 14.5% (29 winning spins in 200)
- Biggest Win: 42x
- Hold and Re-Spin Round: 4
- Jackpot Wheel: 1
The win rate over 200 spins was bang on what was advertised by Fantasma – just 14.5% – which is low, particularly for a mid-variance game. But that does mean that when they drop, the wins are usually good. I picked up a few 10x’s and 16x’s and the Hold and Re-Spin feature triggered 4 times, or once in every 50 spins. From that I won a 13x, a 20x, a 9x and a 42x. It’s a simple Hold and Win and doesn’t look too exciting, but if you get a blue coin as I did in the first game then you will get a crack at the Jackpot Wheel too. I landed a Mini win of just 30x.
Overall, this isn’t a bad slot, with fun visuals, although the Hold and Win is a bit basic and after a while the game does become a little samey.

What Our Reviewer Says ...
"Fantasma's usual high level visual production is not quite matched by the standard of gameplay this time, though 3 reel fans will enjoy the simplicity."
Overall Score: 7.6
Theme & Design
Our Score 8
Atmospheric Soundtrack and Trippy Colors Uplift This Simple 3×3 Slot
Fantasma have made a name for themselves with some superb game designs and despite its simple format, Wild West Buffalo Blast continues in this vein. The backdrop is a wild western one with rocky canyons and desert with cacti and tumbleweed blowing across it. But the striking part is the purple-blue-red-orange tint given to the whole scene, which lends it all a nice psychedelic twist. Meanwhile the paytable is filled with beautifully-drawn prairie beasts, and a desolate twanging guitar and harpsichord western soundtrack completes the picture. Top stuff.
RTP and Variance
Our Score 8
What is RTP?
RTP (Return to Player) refers to the amount a game will pay out in cash prizes expressed as a percentage of all the money wagered on that game. For example, a 96% RTP means a game will pay out £96 for every £100 wagered. This is an average number and will vary from one session to the next. Read more here. What is Variance?
Variance refers to how far a game will deviate from its RTP over time. High variance games deviate a lot and produce uneven win distributions and unexpected windfalls. Low variance games provide a more stable and even distribution of wins. Read more here.Wild West Buffalo Blast has one RTP setting of 95.7%, a little under the 96% that most players see as the average for online slot games. But it’s a fixed RTP – you won’t play this game anywhere at less than 95.7%. That is a good thing at a time when many slots providers are producing games with multiple RTP settings, some lower than 90%, and leaving it to the slot site operator to decide which setting to run the game on.
Fantasma say the game has a medium variance which makes it less unpredictable than their more volatile products. The win distribution should be relatively even over the course of your session.
I should add the caveat that despite its nicely balanced variance and good RTP, this slot has a particularly low win rate of just 14.4% (most are in the range of 20% to 30%), so only 14% of spins will be a winner, on average.
Maximum Win
Our Score 8
What Is Maximum Win?
Maximum win refers to the maximum amount a player can win from one spin. It is expressed as a multiple of the stake. For example, where the maximum win is 100,000x, from a £1 stake, the maximum win would be £100,000.Wild West Buffalo Blast has a very enticing max win of 10,000x. In other words, you can win £1,000 with the minimum 10p stake. That’s unusually high for a mid-variance slot, most of which have potential of around 5,000x. But if you prefer hunting out the bigger prizes, you can check out our article on slots with the highest max wins.
Symbols and Paytable
Our Score 7
With 3 rows and 3 reels, Wild West Buffalo Blast is one of Fantasma Games’ simplest slots to date. Wins are triggered by landing 3 identical symbols from left to right across 5 paylines – 3 horizontal and 2 diagonal.
The pay symbols come in the form of 5 prairie animals – the fox (2x), the wolf (2x), the hawk (6x), the bear (8x) and the buffalo (10x).
There are no wilds in this game.
Features and Gameplay
Our Score 7
Wild West Buffalo Blast has a Hold and Win game and a Jackpot Wheel with 3 jackpots to spin for.
Hold and Re-Spins
The Hold and Spin feature is a simple Hold and Win game. You need to land 3 or more Golden Coins on separate reels on a single spin to trigger this. The coins do NOT have to land on a payline.
The feature starts with 3 spins on an expanded 5×3 grid. Your coins from the triggering spin lock in place and only more coins or blanks can now land. Any time a gold coin lands it locks in place and the counter re-sets to 3. And the round ends when either the entire grid is full or coins OR you run out of spins.
Jackpot Wheel
Landing blue coins during the Hold and Re-Spins triggers a jackpot wheel with segments for each of 3 jackpots – the Mini (30x), Max (80x) and Mega (1,000x). Where the wheel lands triggers the respective prize.
The Final Verdict
Sometimes simple is beautiful and that may be the case with Wild West Buffalo Blast for some players. The striking visuals and atmospheric soundtrack certainly draw you in and if you enjoy straight forward 3×3 slots you should get a kick out of this one. For me the thrill wore off quite quickly though as the Hold and Win and Jackpot Wheel features just felt a little too basic. In short, not a bad game but not as compelling as others in this studio’s growing catalogue.
Useful Tips When Playing Wild West Buffalo Blast
Remember, online slots are games of chance, there is NO strategy that can improve your odds of winning. However, reading our review and following these tips will help you get the most out of your time playing this slot game.
1. Look For Gold Coins
The best wins come from the Hold and Re-Spins round so look for 3 Gold Coins to drop on separate reels in the base game.
2. Look For Blue Coins
During the Hold and Re-Spins game look for blue coins – landing just one will trigger the Jackpot Wheel with the chance to win one of the three fixed JPs.
3. Start At A Low Stake
Use bankroll management and start playing at a low stake – you only need to play 10p per spin in this game. That will ensure you don’t burn out too quick whilst chasing down the features.
