Relax Gaming’s February 2022 release, Beast Mode, is a collaboration with slot streaming community website, Casino Grounds. For that reason, it has the advantage over competitor products that it has been influenced by what slots players like. Or rather, what a particular type of slots player likes … these guys are streamers and into their high-risk gambling, so the variance is cranked up high and the game comes with some excellent features that can kick out big wins in epic sequences.

Beast Mode is a 4,096 payline game with Cascading Wins and Mystery Symbols in the base game. The highlight, however, is a free spins round with three options to choose from with guaranteed Mystery Symbols, Progressive Multipliers or Expanding Wilds.

Beast Mode certainly entertained over 200 spins despite not giving up any of its bonus round secrets. The closest I got was 2 bonus symbols on several occasions but never enough to actually enter the bonus. There were plenty of Random Mystery Spins however – 6 in total – which is, give or take, 1 in 30 spins. The best was a hell raising ride with 5 Mystery Symbols by the end and 10 consecutive cascades driving the payout. This shows where Beast Mode can get really exciting even in the base game. Just a shame I didn’t unlock the bonus round to discover what those special features can do.

Beast Mode looks and sounds great, and its artistic style is definitely Relax Gaming. If you’ve played slots like Top Dawg$ then you will recognise the illustrative style. It has an 80s feel to it and looks like it is set on an LA beach front with graffiti artwork everywhere and fun depictions of cartoon animals pumping iron on the beach, whilst police cars circle and a hypnotic soft-synthesizer track plays in the background. The overall vibe, which I like, is warm, even laid back, and perhaps at odds with the highly volatile nature of the gameplay which I will come onto next.

The exciting thing about these slots of course is that conventional winlines are done away with and payouts are triggered by landing identical symbols on adjacent reels from left to right, regardless of their position. As you might expect of a slot game designed on the feedback from a bunch of feature-hungry slots fanatics, Beast Mode doesn’t shirk on the bonus action which is why I found it such a fun game to play.

Base Game Features

The action throughout is driven by Cascading Wins, so after any winning spin, winning symbols are slashed off the reels, existing symbols drop down to fill the gaps and new symbols drop in to fill the remaining spaces. This process repeats until no more wins are triggered. If you play slots a lot you will have seen this feature in countless other games.

In the base game there are also Random Mystery Spins and Mystery Symbols. These drop at any time.

Mystery Symbols will reveal one pay symbol when they land. The important part is that if more than one Mystery Symbol lands then each one reveals the SAME pay symbol, to increase the chances of scoring wins. On a Random Mystery Spin you are GUARANTEED to land at least one Mystery Symbol. If wins are triggered, then on each Cascade, the Mystery Symbols will reveal a new pay symbol.

In short, Random Mystery Spins are extra spins with better odds of scoring wins, particularly when 3 or 4 Mystery Symbols land.

Free Spins – Choose From Three Options

By far the most exciting part of Beast Mode, and the reason why this game is so popular amongst Relax fans is the free spins options.

As usual, you will need to collect 3 or 4 bonus symbols to trigger this. Bonus symbols are collected at the top of the reels throughout Cascades and are displayed as stars. In an interesting twist, 3 bonus symbols means you have the option to gamble a 50/50 wheel spin to play the upgraded version of the free spins round rather than the basic version. Four bonus symbols takes you straight there.

Beast Mode has THREE free spins options. I love this part because it has literally been configured so you can choose a mode that suits your preferred game features.

The first is Mystery Symbols Free Spins which is SIX at standard level and TEN at upgraded level. This one is good because it adds a bomb symbol randomly onto the reels to add 3 more spins to your total and an extra row to reels 2, 3 and 4. This way you can play with up to 7 rows in the middle reels and significantly more paylines!

The second free spins option is Multiplier Ladder Free Spins with EIGHT free spins in normal mode and NINE in upgraded mode. This option is your best choice if you like progressive multipliers – starting at 1x and increasing with every cascade up to a massive 500x max! The third option is built for those who like expanding symbols – Expanding Wilds Free Spins. You get SEVEN at basic level and TEN at enhanced level. The Final Verdict

Beast Mode is a superb slot that was great fun to play despite its tough, high volatility game engine.

The basic features are sound – cascading wins and mystery symbols are very common now and there they keep the action ticking over. But where this slot really delivers though is in its bonus round choice. And it is entirely evident that those on the player-side of the action have contributed to the design here. Each option is distinct and has a different appeal. It means you can approach the game from different angles, play it as an expanding wilds slot, a progressive multiplier slot, or an expanding reel slot. My own preference is the progressive multiplier level because the max of 500x is very high and watching cascading wins and increasing multiplier is a thing of beauty! It seems like one of the more likely routes to that 25,000x top payout.

In summary, Beast Mode is a slots fanatics slot game – it’s brilliantly designed and the mix of compelling features, good potential and super-fun theme make it one of Relax’s most exciting releases.
