Big Bass Mission Fishin
By Pragmatic Play
Big Bass Mission Fishin is another in the popular fishing series from Pragmatic Play. The style is loosely borrowed from Mission Impossible with some audio visual touches that add humour and drama. In the free spins round landing wilds with fish cash symbols collects their value whilst collecting wilds adds more spins and increases your win multiplier as high as 12x. Alternatively, if you wish you can choose to play a Hold and Win game called Stack the Cash instead. Max payout is 5,000x and spins start at 10p.

Pragmatic Play Find Yet Another Way To Dress Up This Popular Slot
How far can Pragmatic Play stretch this story? A long way it seems. We’ve had our big bass fisherman on holidays, in the Amazon, at the races, gone psycho, and even in Arthurian legend mode. And now, he’s gone all Mission Impossible on us, turning a simple fishing trip into a dramatic cinematic event. The standard fishing boat is exchange for something speedier, the rod and reel are hi tech and the setting has changed to night time at the lake. It's all good fun and if you like your goofiness, you’ll love it.

RTP and Variance
Big Bass Mission Fishin has 3 available RTP rates – 96.5%, 95.5% and 94.5%. Your slot site operator will choose which rate to set the game to. Try to find sites where the rate is at 96.5%. I recommend playing at MrQ from Lindar Media which consistently runs Pragmatic Play slots at the optimum RTP setting. If you want to know which rate the game is on where you play, hit the ‘I’ button under the reels, then scroll through the screens until you see Game Rules. The RTP is normally published at the bottom of that page.
Compared to other Big Bass slots, 96.5% is a good optimum rate. A few in the series are a little higher – Big Bass Splash and the original Big Bass Bonanza come in at 96.71% for example – but there is little difference between that and 96.5% to be honest.
And it’s no surprise to see that Fishing Mission is a high variance slot. Every other Big Bass game is too, so why break with tradition?! Expect a tough time triggering that free spins round, but the chance for some good payouts if you do.
Maximum Win
If you were hoping that Mission Fishin would follow in the footsteps of Day at the Races and Keeping It Reel, both of which offer 10,000x max wins, you’ll be disappointed. The max payout here is 5,000x which is more in line with the potential you find in earlier Big Bass releases like Bigger Bass Bonanza (4,000x) and Big Bass. Splash (5,000x).
Symbols and Paytable
The format of the game has not changed. We are playing on 5 reels with 3 rows on each and 10 paylines. Wins are triggered by landing 3 or more identical symbols on a line from left to right, starting at the left most reel.

There are 10 pay symbols. Low value ones are the cards, 10 through to Ace, valued at from 0.2x for 3 10s up to 10x for 5 Aces. The premiums are the bass shoal, the tackle box, the rod and reel, the may fly, and the speedboat. These are valued at from 1x for 3 bass shoals up to 200x for 5 speedboats.
The wild, as ever, as the fisherman. In this case he’s donned his scuba gear. He ONLY appears in free spins to substitute for any pay symbol to complete a line AND to collect fish symbols with cash values. He has no pay value of his own.
Features and Gameplay
Everything is loaded into the free spins round in Big Bass Mission Fishin, so the base game is just about waiting for scatters to land and picking up pay table wins. Then the game moves into a more interesting phase with classic Big Bass features and a Stack the Cash bonus.
Here is how it all works:
Free Spins With Modifiers and Cash Collects
Triggering Free Spins With Scatter
The scatter symbol is represented by the leaping bass symbol. You need 3 or more to trigger the free spins round, but if you land 2, there are near miss features to help get you over the line …
If 2 scatters appear on a spin and they can move down one space each without dropping off the reels then they do so before a re-spin occurs. The process repeats until a third scatter appears or one or both of the two scatters drops off.
Or, a hook may randomly appear and pull one reel upwards to bring a scatter into view so you have 3 visible.
Once you have at least 3 scatters in view, the free spins round is triggered as follows:
- 3 scatters – 10 free spins
- 4 scatters – 15 free spins
- 5 scatters – 20 free spins
Pick Me Game To Choose Modiifers
Before the round begins you play a Pick Me game to choose from icons on the screen which reveal modifiers that will help you throughout the feature. You keep picking until a boot is revealed. These are the modifiers you can reveal.
More Fish – there are more bass fish on the reels with cash values available to collect
More Fisherman Wilds – there are more wilds on the reels giving you more chance to trigger a cash collect
More Dynamites, Hooks and Bazookas – the odds of triggering one of these random features is increased during the round
Upgrade To Level 2 – the round starts at level 2 giving you a head start on reaching the top level of multipliers
+ 2 Spins – 2 spins are added to your total at the start of the round and 2 more spins are awarded each time you level up.
Cash Collects During Free Spins
The game is simple. Every bass fish has a cash value attached to it – 2x, 5x, 10x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 50x, 100x, 200x, 500x or 5,000x. Every time a wild lands at the same time as a fish, the cash value is collected.
To help you along the way, when wilds land with no fish, or fish land with no wilds, a second chance is awarded. Dynamite may explode to bring fish onto the reels, or a bazooka may go off to change all symbols on the reels when no fish are visible. And when fish are visible but no wilds, then a hook may appear to drag a reel up and reveal a fisherman wild!
So there are plenty of chances to turn losing spins into cash collects.
Level-Ups and Multipliers
Wild symbols are collected in a meter above the reels too. And each 4th one unlocks a new level as follows:
- 4 Wilds – 10 more spins and 2x global win multiplier
- 8 Wilds - 10 more spins and 3x global win multiplier
- 12 Wilds - 10 more spins and 10x global win multiplier
Stack The Cash Feature
Unusually for a Big Bass game there is an additional feature that you can choose instead of the free spins round. You get the chance to pick it when the round triggers and it works like this:
A new reel set with only fish coins with values of 1x to 25x and blanks appears. You get 4 spins and provided a fish coin lands, the counter re-sets to 4 each time. If you fill a reel with coins then the values are collected by a robo crab that sits under each reel and the reel is cleared. Random bombs may drop on a reel after a coin has landed too, doubling the value of all coins on it and in the robo crab beneath.
The round ends when you run out of spins. At which point, the value of all robo crabs is added together and paid out.
Final Verdict
Pragmatic Play are really milking the Big Bass brand right now, and it requires a lot of creative juice to ensure that each release has enough differentiation to make it worth a spin for fans of the series. In this case I think they’ve done just enough. Certainly the production is fun and the Mission Impossible theme carries through nicely, particularly in the bonus round. As far as gameplay goes, the Stack the Cash feature is a good alternative to free spins, and if you go for the traditional bonus round the Pick Me game adds jeopardy and suggests a more powerful configuration than usual. It’s just a shame they couldn’t crank up the max win to finish the job.
Testing Notes
I played 200 spins on Big Bass Mission Fishin on Pragmatic Play’s test server prior to release to test the game. This is what happened.
- Stake Size: 1
- Start balance: 100,000
- End balance: 99,960.90
- Hit Rate: 11.5% (23 winning spins in 200)
- Biggest Win: 147x
- Free Spins Round: 2
Big Bass games are always all about hitting free spins so it was no surprise to find that Fishing Mission was insanely tight in the base game, then let loose once in the bonus round, notching up a 147x win. Yes, just 11.5% of spins were winners in the base game! You need a lot of patience and enough funds in the bank to keep going until those 3 (or more) scatters appear.

I unlocked free spins twice in 200 which is good going. I opted for the Stack the Cash feature on both occasions because its different. It looks great, and thanks to a few bombs I doubled my coin values to finish with a good payout which you can see in the screenshot.
