This Blue Wizard game is due a re-release in November 2021 and the latest versions will be available at all slot sites offering Quickspin games from that time. Slots fanatics will remember Blue Wizard coming on the Playtech and Rarestone Gaming labels as a pretty standard slot with a slightly old-skool vibe, mixing mystical wizard charms with some standard slot features like free spins and multipliers. For this latest upgrade Quickspin have not re-invented the wheel but rather given it a polish and smoothed out the edges.

For those new to the game, Blue Wizard has a mystical atmosphere featuring a wizardly protagonist, who lives in a house in a forest and who apparently spends his time stirring cauldrons and casting spells. The game has a retro feel taking us back to old school slots from bricks and mortar casinos, where in fact the Blue Wizard’s story began.

The symbols in Blue Wizard are all suitably magical in theme. You’ll find gold-plated high cards, spell books, cauldrons, owls, ruby rings and the Blue Wizard himself. Wins are triggered by landing three or more identical icons in adjacent positions on a payline from left to right.

The high cards from 10 through to Ace award the lowest payouts, while the picture symbols award from 2.5x to 6x your bet for 5 of a kind. The Blue Wizard is the Wild symbol in the game, which can substitute for the other symbols to create more potential wins. It will also expand when it lands on the reels if that helps you to score a payout.

Finally, the crystal ball can trigger the Fire Blaze Respin feature, while there is also a castle Scatter symbol to launch the Free Spins round.

Features in Blue Wizard are limited – it’s really just about free spins and re-spins. However, the addition of some hefty multipliers in the bonus round and the fixed jackpots on re-spins adds to the potential of this game.

Free Spins

If you land 3, 4 or 5 castle Scatters, you’ll trigger a payout of 1x, 10x or 50x your bet along with 6 Free Spins. During this round, the Wizard Wilds have a Multiplier attached to them of 2x, 4x, 8x or 16x – any winning combination the Wizard Wilds form a part of will receive this Multiplier reward. You can re-trigger the Free Spins from within the round.

Fire Blaze Respins

Land 6 crystal balls on the screen and you will launch the Fire Blaze Respin feature.

The crystal balls show a prize value of from 1x up to 50x your bet, while they can also display a star icon. The star icons trigger the fixed jackpots and can award a Mini Jackpot for 20x stake, Minor Jackpot for 100x stake, or Major Jackpot for the maximum prize of 500x stake.

In this feature, the crystal balls that triggered the round are locked into position on the reels and 3 Respins begin. The feature will end when no new crystal balls appear or the whole screen is filled with crystal balls to award 2000x your bet.

NOTE: During the re-spins feature you can actually trigger the jackpots more than once! That’s worth remembering as you go into this round.

The Final Verdict

Blue Wizard has a magical atmosphere that is simple in style, understandably so when this is a classic slot that started back in land-based casinos. Fans of retro themes will enjoy the old school feel, while there is enough sophistication here to please modern slots enthusiasts too. Basically, in Quickspin’s upgrade, you get a good mix of old and new.

Just remember that the volatility level here is very high, so this is not a great choice for cautious players looking for some casual spins, but more for those looking for risky slots play who like the big win moments and are prepared to sit through the tough times to get there.

Thanks to its array of fixed jackpots, we found the Fire Blaze Re-spins to be the most enjoyable part of the game and you should be crossing your fingers for those crystal balls to land to trigger this round. And of course, the multipliers in the free spins are key to success too – those Expanding Wilds can really help to boost your wins when combined with the 16x Multipliers that are available. Whilst Blue Wizard doesn’t match the crazy potential of modern games like No Limit City’s San Quentin xWays, it’s still capable of knocking out some nice wins with these two features.

So, in summary, players who enjoy mystical atmospheres, moody imagery and magical twists are sure to feel at home with the theme, while high volatility fans and those who enjoy retro gaming should find this fun to play too.
