An Interesting Alternative Theme For A 'Book of' Slot

Just For The Win have gone for a floating cylindrical reel design in Book of King Arthur. It has a 3d look and sits in front of a regal-looking chamber with red carpet and stone columns, though to be honest you can’t see much of it. The backdrop hints that we are in the court of King Arthur rather than displaying it in full grandeur whilst the jaunty medieval soundtrack adds some appropriate atmosphere.

It’s a nice looking game but a little too retro for my own tastes. At least by moving to a different historical theme have taken the ‘Book of’ format away from its Egyptian roots.

RTP and Variance

The RTP for Book of King Arthur has at least 3 possible settings. I’ve seen it running at 96.1%, 94.07% and 92.1% at various slot sites. Here are the settings at 5 casinos we use to test games:

I would recommend playing at MrQ or Barz Casino for optimum RTP. If you play at 94.07% (Casumo) the difference is minimal but it’s better not to play at a lower setting.

Just For The Win has stuck with the format of ‘Book of’ games so this is a highly volatile one. It can be frustrating – they all are – and take a long time to unlock the bonus round but once there, the expander symbol can help trigger big wins.

Maximum Win

The top payout here is 5,000x which isn’t huge and doesn’t compare particularly well with the latest ‘Book of’ slots. Quickspin’s Book of Duat comes in at 32,760x, Relax Gaming’s Book of Power is at 15,000x and Nolimit City’s excellent Book of Shadows is 30,761x for example. However, it is on par with the original Book of Dead by Play n Go.

Symbols and Paytable

The standard set up for a ‘Book of’ slot is 5 reels, 3 rows and 10 paylines. And that is exactly what you get here. Wins pay for 3 or more card symbols on a line from left to right, or 2 or more premiums on a line from left to right.

Another feature of the ‘Book of’ slot is high values in the paytable and you get that too, maxing out at a massive 500x for 5 of the top payer.

The low payers are the cards, 10 through to Ace. These are valued at from 0.5x for 3 10s up to 15x for 5 Aces. The premiums are the shield, cup, sword and King Arthur himself. These are valued at from 0.5x for 2 shields up to 500x for 5 Arthurs.

The book symbol is the Wild and Scatter combined. So, it can substitute for any other symbol to complete a payline, but also triggers free spins when 3 or more land ANYWHERE on the reels. It has great value too at 2x, 40x or 200x for 3, 4 or 5 on a line on its own.

There is nothing new about the free spins format here either.

Landing 3 or more of the Books will trigger the Free Spins round with 10 Free Spins awarded initially. Before the round begins, a round table spins to reveal which icon will become an Expanding Symbol.

Once into the bonus round, if by expanding that symbol can trigger wins, then it will do just that. Symbols in a payline with the expander do NOT have to be on adjacent reels OR start on reel 1. And if you land 3 or more books at any point, the round will re-trigger.

Boost Feature Gives You Expanding Wilds

As an add on, Just For The Win have created this extra feature. In regular play, the minimum bet is 20p but if you activate the Boost Feature, this increases to 40p.
