Testing Notes: Here’s What Happened When We Played Fist of Destruction
IMPORTANT: To give you an accurate assessment of the games we review our writers play 200 spins. Whilst this is a useful tool to help us review games and to give an example of what might happen when you play, keep in mind that 200 spins is only a very small sample and cannot be used to accurately predict what might happen over another 200 spins. The outcome of all slots play is always random.
Boom Or Bust? Our Session By The Numbers
I played 300 spins on Fist of Destruction to test the game. This is what happened.
- Stake Size: £1
- Start balance: £5,000
- End balance: £4,796.50
- Hit Rate: 26% (79 winning spins in 300)
- Wins With Wild Reels: 10% (30 in 300)
- Biggest Win: 14x
- Free Spins Round: 0
This was quite an unforgiving 300 spins which burnt through the balance fast.
Starting with the hit rate, this was 26%. One win in 1 in 4 spins isn’t bad but beware because Fist of Destruction still produced runs of 10 or 12 spins with no wins at times. And in terms of value, the wins were never big, maxing out at just 14x when two blue fists expanded to wild reels, one taking on a 4x multiplier.
Whilst this is disappointing it’s also typical of a high variance game.
The best action came always came via the expanding wilds, and when two or more are involved, both with multipliers, it is easy to see how impressive wins can accumulate. The free spins itself never showed up which is disappointing. Whilst this is not completely unheard of, most games give you at least one free spin feature bonus within 200 or 300 spins. This is another indicator of the high volatility of Fist of Destruction.
To test the bonus round I bought in at the end of my 300 spins, and it didn’t disappoint.  The feature produced a 220.9x payout thanks to an Epic Drop spin where 4 expanded wilds, one with a 3x multiplier, dropped on reels 2, 3, 4 and 5. Watching the Epic Drops in action you can see how heavily weighted the balance of wins is towards the bonus round. There is huge potential if the multipliers combine well for you, and the mix of expanding wilds, accompanied by sounds of fists flying, is an intoxicating one. It will be a thrilling slot if you can make it this far.
What We Liked
- Expanding Wilds take on random multipliers of up to 200x
- Clever fight features woven into gameplay
- Chance to combine wild multipliers for big wins
- Great slot for fans of combat video games
- Low 10p minimum stake
What We Didn't like
- Free spins round was tough to trigger in testing - not once in 300 spins

What Our Reviewer Says ...
"A really cool combat slot game which video gamers will love. Includes classic expanding wild multipliers from Hacksaw creating big potential to pop!"
Overall Score: 8.2
Theme & Design
Our Score 8
Video Game Style With Hand to Hand Marital Arts FightersÂ
In Fist of Destruction Hacksaw Gaming are tapping into the hugely popular combat genre of video games, invoking the style of titles like Street Fighter, with huge, bulked-up martial arts fighters ready to pound heads with fists and activate fatal moves on their opponents. It all takes place in an urban backstreet, with tower blocks in the background and a makeshift fight arena with wooden crates and traffic cones in the foreground.
The action moves to the same setting a night for free spins. Â There is a nice touch where you get to choose your fighter from four options at the top of the reels. And the soundtrack is a steady electro one with plenty of nice combat sound affects as punches fly and heads get cracked. There are some good fighting slot games out there, but few if any have brought the video game style to the reels quite as effectively as this one.
RTP and Variance
Our Score 8
What is RTP?
RTP (Return to Player) refers to the amount a game will pay out in cash prizes expressed as a percentage of all the money wagered on that game. For example, a 96% RTP means a game will pay out £96 for every £100 wagered. This is an average number and will vary from one session to the next. Read more here. What is Variance?
Variance refers to how far a game will deviate from its RTP over time. High variance games deviate a lot and produce uneven win distributions and unexpected windfalls. Low variance games provide a more stable and even distribution of wins. Read more here.Hacksaw give four possible RTPs settings on Fist of Destruction – 96.3%, 94.3%, 92.38% or 88.27%. In the UK most sites will run the game at 96.3% or 94.3%, but a few are known to run slots at under 90%, so beware of that. Check the RTP on the game info screen – hit the hamburger menu on bottom left of the screen, then ‘info’ – to find out which setting your casino runs the game at.
In my tests I have found MrQ from Lindar Media to be the most reliable slot site for optimum RTP settings. Barz Casino from White Hat Gaming is also good. I recommend playing Fist of Destruction there.
The variance rating is medium-high so not as volatile as Hacksaw’s notorious games like Hand of Anubis or the recent 2 Wild 2 Die. It has the same rating as Feel the Beat which tested and found relatively balanced, kicking out some good mid-range wins at a 28% hit rate.
Maximum Win
Our Score 8
What Is Maximum Win?
Maximum win refers to the maximum amount a player can win from one spin. It is expressed as a multiple of the stake. For example, where the maximum win is 100,000x, from a £1 stake, the maximum win would be £100,000.The maximum payout in Fist of Destruction is 10,000x which sits squarely in the standard range of potential for high variance Hacksaw slots. They have more recently begun to release games with a bit more in the tank like 2 Wild 2 Die which stretches to a 15,000x max win, but by and large 10,000x is what you get. If you want more potential then I would recommend reading our list of the highest max win slots, or trying another provider like Nolimit City.
Symbols and Paytable
Our Score 8
Fist of Destruction is a 5 reel and 4 row slot with 14 fixed paylines on each spin. To trigger a win you are required to land 3 or more identical symbols from left to right along a payline, starting at the left-most reel.
There is good value in the paytable. We start at the low end with 10s, Jacks, Queens, Kings and Aces, valued at from 0.1x for 3 10s up to 2x for 5 Aces. The premiums are the four fighters, which are easiest to describe by their colors, orange blue, yellow and purple. These are valued at form 0.5x for 3 oranges, up to 10x for 5 purples.
The Wilds are symbols with the W on them. They substitute for any pay symbol to complete a payline and pay out 10x for 5 on a line.
Features and Gameplay
Our Score 9
Fist of Destruction includes expanding wilds that will be familiar to Hacksaw fans as we’ve seen them in other games from the studio, as well as two free spins rounds.
Fist Symbol, Punches and Wild Reels
Look out for the fist symbols in blue and red. Only one of these can land on a reel at one time. When they do, they will expand upwards to the top of their reel as a wild IF by doing so they can complete at least one payline.
And in a clever twist, IF when they expand upwards, the fist passes through – i.e. punches – a fighter of the opposing team, based on their color – then a multiplier is added to the wild reel. The multiplier is then applied to all wins that pass through that reel.
And if your fist punches more than one fighter of the opposite team, then more than one multiplier is created and they are added together for that reel.
This being Hacksaw, we have a big range of multipliers, with big numbers at the top: 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x, 7x, 8x, 9x, 10x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 50x, 100x or 200x.
Throwdown! Bonus Free Spins With Victory Levels
In the first of two free spins rounds the competitive elements of the game are enhanced and a nice progressive format is introduced.
Firstly, you need 3 FS Scatters to land on one spin to trigger the Throwdown! Bonus feature. That gets you 10 spins. Whilst the mechanics of the game do not change, there is an added Victory Level feature to look out for.
Each team – red and blue – start with a 3+ Victory Level. When a team’s fist punches through an opponent it earns one Victory Point. When 3 points have been collected, then an an Epic Drop is awarded AND their Victory Level increases by 1.
What is an Epic Drop? This is a re-spin with a GUARANTEED number of fist symbols. The number of fist symbols depends on the Victory Level as follows:
- Victory Level 3+ – at least 3 fists in the color of the team that earned the Epic Drop.
- Victory Level 4+ – at least 4 fists in the color of the team that earned the Epic Drop.
- Victory Level 5+ – at least 5 fists in the color of the team that earned the Epic Drop.
NOTE: the fists that land in Epic Drops do NOT contribute to the Victory Levels.
As with all Hacksaw slots, landing FS Scatters during the bonus round can get your more spins. 2 FS get you 2 more spins and 3 FS get you 4 more spins.
Ultimate Throwdown! Bonus
The enhanced free spins round is called Ultimate Throwdown! You need to land 4 FS Scatters in the base game to trigger it. The format is the same as the standard Throwdown! except you start at Victory Level 4+.
And once again, the round can be extended by landing 2 FS Scatters to get you 2 more spins or 3 FS Scatters to get you 4 more spins.
The Final Verdict
Hacksaw Gaming have done a brilliant job of adapting the style of combat video games into an online slot. Both visuals and gameplay are superb. In testing Fist of Destruction suggested it might be more volatile than its medium-high billing, but overall it is a finely tuned game. Most likely it will deliver small regular wins in the base round before occasionally going pop in free spins where the chance to land Epic Drops with as many as four guaranteed expanding wild multipliers is your ticket to glory.
