HarleCoin
By Red Tiger
HarleCoin is a unique 3-reel slot from Red Tiger that takes its theme from Harlequin characters from medieval Italian culture. This game has a unique format with just one fixed payline on each spin. Symbol values displayed above the reels increase when special HarleCoin symbols land, progressively growing in value until a win is triggered when they re-set. There is also a free spins round where up to 25 free plays are awarded during which HarleCoins land more frequently and symbol values do not re-set between wins.
This is a volatile slot with a 1,076x top win. Spins start at 10p per play.

Theme and Design
A Simple Slot With A Mysterious Theme
HarleCoin has a simple, 3-reel layout and an opulent, bronze design with sculpted Harlequein characters appearing either side of the reels, each carrying a giant ruby red gemstone. It has a slightly dark, sinister feel to it but the pay symbols and the background are all beautifully illustrated and the overall vibe is distinctive and high class. A key part of the design is the dynamic paytable which displays current symbol values above the reels. Keep your eye on this throughout the game to see what payouts you can expect.
RTP and Variance
HarleCoin has a slightly under average RTP of 95.71%. It’s not massively below the 96% average though so we can live with it. It’s rated as a medium-high variance slot with an advertised win rate of 1 in 5 (20%) which is itself low too. So, in short, expect infrequent wins, but hopefully when they do land they’ll be of significant value.
Maximum Win
Perhaps the weakest point about this slot is its maximum win value – just 1,076x. That is very poor for a high variance game like this which we normally expect to offer wins of up to 10,000x at least. If you want better potential I recommend checking out our list of slots with the highest maximum wins.
Symbols and Paytable
The configuration of HarleCoin is simple to start. There are 3 reels and just ONE payline, straight through the middle.
But where HarleCoin becomes interesting is in the paytable which is dynamic as the value of pay symbols changes during your session. There are six icons in total, all in a classic fruit machine style – cherries, stars, lucky sevens, clovers, bells and a wild. You’ll see their starting value in a grid that is displayed above the reel. But watch them change on each spin when you collect HarleCoins.
The maximum payline length is just 3, as there are only 3 reels, and the symbol starting values are from 4x for 3 cherries up to 50x for 3 lucky 7s. The wild, as well as substituting for any other symbol to complete a payline, also pays out at 125x for 3 on a line at the start of your spins.
Features and Gameplay
Onto the features, and they are lite to say the least.
Throughout the game, you should aim to land Harelcoins. These are coins that appear as overlays on symbols on the reels. When one lands it boosts the value of its respective symbol in the paytable above the reels. So, if you land a HarleCoin on a lucky 7, then it will boost the value of the Lucky 7 in the paytable.
HarleCoins can land on ANY symbol, including Wilds.
You can boost the paytable significantly in this way though each symbol has an upper limit value, allowing players to enhance the values of cherries, clovers, stars, bells, sevens, or wilds to 20x, 30x, 50x, 100x, 250x, or 500x the wager.
When a win occurs, then the symbol values re-set to the original starting ones.
Free Spins With Up To 25 Free Plays
There is also a free spins round which is triggered by landing 3 bonus icons which display the words Boost Spins across them.
That gives you up to 25 free spins – the actual number is arbitrarily chosen. Now, the HarleCoin feature is enhanced too – so any icon that isn’t displaying its max value in the grid will ALWAYS land with a HarleCoin booster on each spin. And, in this case, when a win is generated, the values of icons doesn’t reset – so they remain high throughout the round giving you more chance of scoring bigger wins.
And finally …
At the end of your bonus round, the icons remain at the value they are until the next win is triggered in the base game.
Final Verdict
HarleCoin is an interesting slot because it doesn’t fit the current trend of high max payout, feature-packed games that are currently flooding UK slot sites. Instead it mixes an enigmatic theme with a really simple idea. But it is compelling. It’s not about triggering wins on every 2 or 3 spins, but rather waiting, and building up symbol values before prizes of 5x, 10x or 50x eventually drop. And it does happen. The highlight is obviously the free spins round which looks electric, if you can get there. In short, I think this is a game that has more to offer than its simple configuration and low max win at first suggest. Over to you to decide …
Testing Notes
I played 200 spins on HarleCoin for free on Red Tiger’s website to test the game and this is what happened.
- Stake Size: £1
- Start balance: £200
- End balance: £120
- Biggest Win: 50x
- Free Spins Round: 0
- Session Time: 12 minutes 17 seconds
HarleCoin is a fast game to play. With so few features and just 1 payline you can rattle through 200 spins in no time, so keep that in mind when choosing how you want to approach the stake level. It’s high variance also means you can burn through you balance quickly as I did.
I counted 12 wins in 200 spins – that is just 6% which is lower even than the advertised 20% hit rate. However, due to the configuration of the paytable and the HarleCoin feature, they were a decent size. Amongst those 12 wins were a 50x, a 14x, an 11x and a 9x. So, as expected, infrequent wins, but good value when they came.
The HarleCoins themselves appeared 16 times in 200 spins – that’s just 8% of the time. That is less than I expected, and I never saw one on a Wild, or on the Lucky 7s.
Overall, HarleCoin was a slightly frustrating experience, because the wins were so infrequent. However, they were always at least 2x, and often significantly higher, and for that reason I was still engaged at the end of the 200 spins and this is one I would come back to.
