About This Slot

It seems to be the season for Wild West slots. In recent weeks we have reviewed Quickspin’s sinister high variance game, Sticky Bandit’s Trail of Blood, and Push Gaming’s slick Deadly 5 game. Now Red Tiger have arrived on the scene in partnership with Max Win Gaming to deliver Wanted Wildz. Whilst each of these three slots has a slightly different take on the theme from dark and sombre to cartoon-ish and humorous, the consistent feature in all of them is Wilds. Of course, it fits with the theme – ‘Wild West’ – and its nothing new. NetEnt were doing this long before these guys showed up with Dead or Alive game. The question is, can the studio provide a sufficiently interesting twist to make the game worth playing.

In their case, Max Win Gaming and Red Tiger have given us a twist by making a Multiplier ladder central to the bonus round with a tantalising 100x max multiplier sitting right at the top. The game also eschews the standard grissly old outlaw or sheriff character for a skeletal one with a Stetson and pistol. Something like Esqueleto Explosivo by Thunderkick meets Dead or Alive by NetEnt!

Wanted Wildz is already out and you can find it at the best slot sites in the UK. Let’s see how it measures up against the competition.

RTP, Variance and Top Payout

Just like Quickpin’s Sticky Bandits game, Wanted Wildz is a high risk slot, rated 5/5 by Red Tiger themselves, and with that multiplier ladder in the bonus round we suspect this game might just deliver some very big wins during free spins. The RTP is an average 96.05% and the top win is 15,000x.

Play starts from just 10p per spin.

Symbols and Graphics

There is nothing particularly striking about the visuals. The standard dusty old Western town provides the setting for Wanted Wildz. It has none of the dark, sinister feeling of a Tombstone RIP despite the presence of our skeletal friend, but there are some brooding skies to enjoy and of course the Multiplier Ladder to the left of the reel set catches the eye immediately.

The grid is a 5 reel and 3 row set up with 20 fixed paylines active at all times. There are no expansions in the game.

Standard low value symbols are the 9 through to Ace with a top pay of just 3x for 5 on a line. The premiums are the cowboy boots, the bag of coins, the Stetson hat and the sheriffs badge. The latter pays out a decent 25x for five on a payline.

Wilds are key to the action and are represented by the skeleton with his Stetson and mask, subbing in for all others to form wins and paying out a whopping 50x for five on a line.

Gameplay and Features

There aren’t a whole lot of features in Wanted Wildz but those that are here are tried and tested and executed well by Red Tiger with the potential to deliver some nice wins. Here is what to look out for as you spin those reels.

Random Multiplier Wilds – this game drops wilds frequently, which is a great thing. But thing get hotter still when this random feature drops too. Now, any wild on the grid comes with a multiplier of 2x, 5x, 25x or 100x. If your payline is completed with one of these as a part of it then the multiplier is applied to the win.

Free Spins – the other feature in Wanted Wildz is the free spins bonus round triggered by landing 3 or more scatters. That starts you off with 5 spins and crucially it gives you your first step on the Wild Multiplier Ladder at 2x.

Further key points here:

  • Any wild that lands during the round is sticky for the duration.
  • Any scatters that land will help to move you up the Wild Multiplier Ladder. 2 scatters gets you to the 5x, 4 gets you to the 25x and 6 gets you to the 100x top rung.
  • There are 4 stages on the ladder – 2x, 5x, 25x and 100x. At each stage another 5 spins are added to your total.
  • If you land 3 or more scatters on one spin, you earn another 5 spins.

Our Verdict

Red Tiger have opted to keep things simple with Wanted Wildz, a strategy that is not uncommon in Western slots. With the exception of NLC’s Tombstone RIP it seems that most studios opt to keep things clean with just a few high potential features to drive the action. And fans of the sticky wild and the multiplier in Westerns will be right at home here.

They just better be at home with the high volatility too!

Yes, Wanted Wildz is as tough as old cowboy boots in that respect. The base game gives little away, although every now and then you might get lucky with a good random wild multiplier in the 5x or 25x range (never seen a 100x though they are reputedly there). But the bonus round is where it’s at – with Wilds worth 50x for five on a line and the potential for the ladder to deliver you the 25x or even 100x multipliers, things could get really tasty. Big, big wins will come when the game delivers both the multipliers and extra spins to play with. Just remember, that will be a rare, rare thing.

Of the three Western slots to arrive this summer, Wanted Wildz more than holds its own. Its top payout comes in just under the 17,000x provided by Trail of Blood, but its gameplay was more enjoyable – Trail of Blood is an even sparser slot with just locked wilds and free spins to play for (no multipliers). Both are far more volatile that Dangerous 5 which has a much lower to payout of just 5,000x and is built to appeal to a wider audience with its medium variance.

In summary, Wanted Wildz just about does enough to stand out in a crowded genre of slot and for a lucky few will certainly deliver some memorable wins.
