About This Slot

Anyone who has spun the reels on Big Time Gaming’s Kingmaker Megaways™ from 2019 will be familiar with this experience: after a punishing run of hundreds of spins in which you’ve worked hard to build up high value multipliers across all the main symbols, you’re leaning in waiting for those scatters to drop and the free spins round to kick, but before it does, your balance dwindles and you have to call time on your session. This experience is high risk gaming at its harshest. You see, we all love a good BTG slot, but from time to time we’ve all probably said we’ll never play one again. The first Kingmaker’s triumph is its ability to turn a grating session into a blockbuster win sequence in seconds just by tipping you into the free spins round, but it takes a long time to get there. But along the way, your task is to score as many 5-line gemstone payouts as possible, because each one will increase your win multipliers by 1x, and when you do finally hit the bonus round, they are all added together and applied to EVERY win. It’s just, you often run out of time and money before you get there!

Recognising the problematic nature of this set up, BTG have provided us with an alternative version of Kingmaker. This time, instead of earning your multipliers, they are simply applied at random on each spin in the base game, (with a value of anything from 1x to 99x) and your multiplier for the bonus game works the same way – we will come onto that further down this review.

Before we get there, let’s cover off a few other details – the game is the same in style as the original, with its royal medieval theme, including stunning castle background, lake and mountains, with classic BTG gemstones on the reels. This is also a slightly paired-back version of Megaways, with just 5 reels rather than 6, giving you up to 16,807 ways to win per spin, rather than the Bonanza-style 117,649.

Once again, you’ll be serendated by atmospheric music during the game, and the reel spins give off a pretty epic sound like thundering horses’ hooves! It’s undoubtedly a powerful game in terms of theme and features whilst it also offers bigger potential wins than its predecessor thanks to those 99x Random Multipliers.

RTP, Variance and Top Payout

Onto the maths, and the RTP of Kingmaker Reloaded is 96.53%, which is slightly above average for an online slot. The 20p minimum bet and high volatility combine to make this a risky play that certainly won’t sit well with casual gamblers. Indeed, it is better suited to higher rollers or players who enjoy an element of danger in their slot play.

The 32,400x stake top reward is higher than the original slot’s 24,250x stake prize and you’ll need to be lucky with the random Multipliers to reach this. To score epic wins it helps if you play at higher betting levels and trigger the full Megaways experience during Free Spins.

Symbols and Graphics

The symbols in King Maker Fully Loaded Megaways are themed on a medieval royal kingdom with crowns on the reels and a series of coloured gemstones, each one emblazoned with a snake, dragon, griffin or minotaur. These emblems correspond to the coloured banners flying to the left of the reels.

You can receive 0.5x, 0.6x, 0.7x or 10x stake for 5 of a kind with the purple dragon gemstone awarding the highest payout. The gemstones also get a Random Multiplier assigned on each spin. In addition to the regular symbol, there is a multi-coloured Wild, which appear on reel 2, 3, 4 and 5. The Wild can substitute for all the other symbols in the game, though it holds no value of its own.

Gameplay and Features

Kingmaker Reloaded, much like the original, is pretty simple to follow. The keys to the big wins are free spins and multipliers. There are wilds in play but no cascading wins or mystery symbols that you normally find in Megaways™ titles. Here is how it all works:

Wilds

The colourful Wild symbol stands in for all the other symbols in the game to create more potential winning combinations. Look out for this Wild symbol on all the reels except reel 1.

Megaways

The Megaways feature means you get random numbers of paylines on each spin, leading to a maximum of 16,807 ways to win. The maximum number of paylines is always active during Free Spins. The 5 reels of this slot limits the number of paylines available from the Megaways feature with fewer available compared with the 6-reel Megaways slots.

Random Multipliers

At the start of each spin, each coloured gemstone symbol gets assigned a Random Multiplier which is displayed on the same coloured flag to the left of the reel set. It can be worth anything from 1x up to 99x. This Multiplier is then applied to payouts from a winning combination using the respective coloured gemstone.

This feature is only active during the base game and the mutlipliers change on EVERY spin.

Free Spins Round

Landing at least 3 Scatters will activate the Free Spins round. This can award 7, 12 or 20 Free Spins and an instant payout of 4x, 20x or 250x stake, depending on how many Scatters triggered the round.

On the triggering spin, the Random Multipliers assigned to each gemstone and displayed on the colored flags to the left of the reels are added up and the total is applied to the payouts on EVERY spin during the Free Spins round.

This round takes place inside the castle walls at dusk for atmosphere with torches on the walls and gold coins strewn on the ground.

But that’s not all. There are other features that make this bonus round an absolute lyepic event …

The FULL Megaways™ are active for EVERY spin – that means there 7 symbols on every reel and 16,807 paylines in play. Plus, there is a re-trigger option – land 3, 4 or 5 scatters and you will add another 7, 12 or 20 spins to your total.

A high value multiplier and a high number of spins is therefore an epic win waiting to happen in this game!

Our Verdict

King Maker Fully Loaded is an interesting twist on the original game and one that may split the pack when it comes to preferences. For some, the thrill of watching your multipliers grow in the base game was a perk of the first King Maker – there were some decent wins to be had whilst you waited for free spins to arrive. For others, the long wait for those scatters to drop was too much and this new version which is more random – you don’t build your own multiplier values over time, you just wait to see what your given – is a better experience. You can hit a big win at anytime and you are less likely to feel cheated when you build a huge multiplier but never trigger the free spins.

Aside from that the King Maker format remains a slot with a strong theme and players of the original game will enjoy the same royal style, atmospheric sound effects and gameplay. This is perhaps a more volatile offering, and the chance to land 99x Multipliers on ANY spin, and even on each gemstone banner sets the blood racing!

If you have a taste for high risk slots and enjoy Megaways™ and royal themes, then we highly recommend dipping into King Maker Reloaded. Just be aware that it is tough as nails and requires patience and bankroll to unlock its riches.

Good luck!
