Theme and Design

The Rainbow Riches series is well known, with more than 10 titles in the collection. If you’ve played one of them, then you’ll know the ‘luck of the Irish’ theme well. It remains largely the same throughout all of the titles, with rolling green hills, gold coins, traditional cottages, and the iconic rainbow. You’ll usually find a leprechaun too. The artwork is clean and colourful, but when it comes to imagination, the series doesn’t really shake things up too much.

RTP and Variance

This game takes a medium volatility approach, offering the occasional larger win, mixed with mostly smaller ones. The RTP of 96.34% is really pretty decent, offering a good return that together with fair volatility should keep your bankroll going.

Maximum Win

The top payout of 5,000x your bet leaves a little to be desired. Many other titles in the Rainbow Riches series offer higher top payouts, including Rainbow Riches Power Mix at 12,500x your bet and the progressive jackpot title in the series, Rainbow Riches Jackpot O’ Luck. If you’re on a budget and not too worried about landing massive wins then a 5,000x haul would be nothing to complain about, especially with a solid RTP. However, jackpot chasers are advised to look elsewhere.

Symbols and Paytable

Rainbow Riches is initially played on a 4x4 grid that’s surrounded on all sides by blocker tiles. When winning clusters are made, this removes some of the shamrock blocker tiles, expanding the grid to a full size of 8x8. 

Instead of regular paylines, this slot uses a cluster pays mechanic, meaning you can make wins anywhere on the grid as long as you match at least 5 symbols and they’re touching either vertically or horizontally. 

There are seven pay symbols plus a wild symbol too. The low value symbols are the gems (purple, blue, green and orange). These are worth 0.1x the stake for 5, up to 10x the stake for 10+. The premium symbols are the mushroom, shamrock, and leprechaun. These are worth from 1x for 5 up to 250x for 10+ symbols.

The wild symbol is a pot of gold that substitutes for any pay symbol to complete a cluster.

Features and Gameplay

Each time a new Rainbow Riches is announced, there’s speculation over what the new feature will be. For Rainbow Riches Cluster Magic, the cluster pays mechanic is certainly unique, but there’s also excitement to be found in the other features.

Cascading Wins

Every time you make a winning cluster the symbols in that cluster will disappear and make way for new ones. This will continue until the new symbols stop making wins and you’ll be paid out. Every time a winning cluster hits, a section of blocked off squares becomes live.

Bonus Games

The expanding grid isn’t done at just expanding. If you manage to open all of the spaces on the reels then it will also trigger the bonus game. To expand to the full grid size, you need to hit 6 wins on one cascade.

A prize wheel will appear which you can spin to see which of the three different rounds you’ll win. If you don’t like the round that’s spun then you can choose to gamble for a different one. Be warned though, there’s a chance when gambling your round that you’ll lose it altogether. 

Infinity Games

Option one of the bonus rounds is a free spins round that gives you more spins whenever you land a win. This means that in theory, this game could keep going and going - up to a maximum of 250 free spins. 

As well as this, there’s a multiplier that increases by +1 each cascade with no limit. If you don’t manage to make a win of at least 10x your bet then you’ll receive this as a consolation prize.  

Persisting Wilds

Option two is a free spins round where two wilds are added whenever there’s a cascade. Wilds remain on the reels even if they’re part of a winning cluster, only being removed when a new spin is started. If you make 6 cascades in a row then this grants you an additional 8 free spins. 

Wild Magic

Option three is another free spins round, perhaps the most exciting of all. This round sees between 4 and 16 wilds added to the reels. Like in the persisting wilds round, if you land 6 cascades in a row, you’re awarded 4 additional free spins.
