Back in 2014 they released this golf-themed game. In it, players are transported to a cartoon golf course complete with blue skies and green trees, while golf clubs and buggies appear on the reels. Unlike some of their more recent titles, this game is simple in style with a classic 5 reel and 3-row layout, along with 20 paylines. The simple design feels a far cry from the complex slots with tumbling reels, cluster pays, bonus meters and everything else we have come to expect from Play n Go over the years. We’re back to basics here for sure with classic features, such as regular Wilds and Free Spins.

The whole slot has a peaceful vibe and we’re digging the golf theme.

In terms of artwork Gold Trophy 2 is very much an old skool slot with a simplistic feel.

The symbols in the game include a golf buggy, golf flag, golf clubs, golf ball, gold jacket, gold trophy and winner’s cheque. We were expecting a green jacket rather than a gold one, considering the green jacket is awarding to the winner of the most coveted golf competition, the US Masters. A bit of research reveals the gold jacket is awarded to the winner of the Australian Masters, so Pay n Go are obviously taking us Down Under for this game.

The flag and gold jacket pay 750x stake for 5 of a kind, the golf buggy pays 500x stake for 5 matches and the golf club and ball both pay 250x stake for 5 matches. The best-paying symbol is the Wild trophy, which can pay 5,000x stake for 5 of a kind.

The Scatter is the winner’s cheque and this symbol can pay 200x stake for 5 of a kind. The Scatter can also trigger the Free Spins round.

Once again we should remind readers that this game was released back in 2014 and it shows a little in the basic features on offer. This was a time before Megaways™, big progressive multipliers and cell splitting mayhem! But if you like to keep things simple, you’ll enjoy what’s on offer.

Wilds

The gold trophy is the Wild symbol. This can stand in for all the other symbols in the game, except for the winner’s cheque Scatter. The gold trophy Wild also doubles the payout from any combination it appears in. This is the top-paying symbol in the game, awarding up to 5000x stake for 5 of a kind.

Free Spins and Multipliers

Landing 3 or more winner’s cheque Scatters activates the Free Spins round. When this happens, you will receive 15 Free Spins straight away, along with a 3x Multiplier on all payouts.

Gamble Feature

After any winning spin, you have the chance to gamble your winnings in the hope of doubling or quadrupling your payout. Guess the correct colour for the next card in the deck to double your reward or guess the correct suit to quadruple it.

The Final Verdict

Gold Trophy 2 a simple slot that takes players back to the old school world of 5 reel, 3-row slots and 20 paylines. The visuals are simple with cartoon graphics and classic bonus features and there are no sophisticated bonus games here – just a plain old-fashioned Free Spins round. What you do get is 3x Multipliers for some extra zing in your payouts. The main issue for us was that the Free Spins round didn’t tend to trigger very often and it was some time waiting for the 3 winner’s cheques to land.

In summary, whilst Gold Trophy offers a good basic level of entertainment, modern gamers with a love for complex multi-tiered features with intriguing triggering events will feel very underwhelmed. But for lovers of the old school 5-reel games without all the bells and whistles of modern video slots this will be a fun trip to simpler times, especially if you happen to love breezing down the fairways chasing wins on the links as well!
