Theme, Artwork & Design 6/10

Towering Fortunes is an aspirational slot game themed around the high life and set in a gleaming modern metropolis at nighttime. It has the feel of a game like Mega Fortune Dreams by NetEnt or Blinged by Play n Go. The backdrop features huge towering skyscapers and a big wheel, and what looks like a large river in the foreground. In the main feature, Hold and Spins, the action switches to a new grid lit up by huge spotlights.

The graphics and style are very straightforward and it certainly invokes the feeling of wealth and opulence its aiming for, but in the modern age of sophisticated design, Towering Fortunes already looks quite dated.

RTP and Variance 7/10

What is RTP?

RTP (Return to Player) refers to the amount a game will pay out in cash prizes expressed as a percentage of all the money wagered on that game. For example, a 96% RTP means a game will pay out £96 for every £100 wagered. This is an average number and will vary from one session to the next.  Read more here.

What is Variance?

Variance refers to how far a game will deviate from its RTP over time. High variance games deviate a lot and produce uneven win distributions and unexpected windfalls. Low variance games provide a more stable and even distribution of wins. Read more here.

Towering Fortune has three possible RTP settings: 96.5%, 95.5% or 94.5%. Which you play at will depend on your casino operator. We checked four UK slot sites to see which setting they chose for this game:

  • Casumo (independent): 94.5%
  • MrQ (independent): 96.5%
  • MrPlay (Aspire Global): 94.5%
  • BacanaPlay (Skill on Net): 94.5%

MrQ was the only site to be offering Towering Fortune at the optimum RTP setting. So if this is an important number for you then we recommend that you play there.

If you are looking for a Pragmatic Play slot with higher RTP you could try Clover Gold (96.54% RTP) or Panda’s Fortune 2 (96.51% RTP).

The hit frequency is 32.63% which means around one in every three spins will turn up a win of some kind. And the odds of hitting the top payout are 1 in 1,000,000,000.

This is also a high variance slot with a rating of 4.5/5 so be ready for some long low spells before short bursts of big wins. It will be a tough one to crack.

Maximum Win 6/10

What Is Maximum Win?

Maximum win refers to the maximum amount a player can win from one spin. It is expressed as a multiple of the stake. For example, where the maximum win is 100,000x, from a £1 stake, the maximum win would be £100,000.

The top payout is set at 6,422x which can be won in the special Hold and Spin feature game. This is an unimpressive jackpot for a high risk game. There are other Pragmatic Play games with higher top payouts. If that is what you are looking for then you could try Eye of the Storm (10,000x) or Crystal Cavern Megaways (10,000x).

Paytable 8/10

Towering Fortunes takes place on standard 5 reels and 3 rows reel set with 20 fixed paylines. Wins are triggered by landing three or more identical symbols on the reels from left to right on a payline.

Symbol values are good with the chance to score some high wins from the premiums and five wilds on a line.

Low-paying symbols are the Jack through to Ace and can pay between 2.5x and 5x when you land five of the same kind on a payline. The premiums are sports cars, glasses of liquor and cigars, Lear jets, luxury yachts and blinged-up lady. These pay anywhere between 7.5x and 50x for five-of-a-kind.

The Wild is super-cool here. It subs in for all others to form wins AND it has a valuation of its own. No less than 250x is paid out for five on a payline.

Watch out as well for the Briefcase Mystery Symbol and the Money Symbols which are key to the bonus round.

Gameplay & Features 8/10

There are two features in Towering Fortunes.

In the base game, look out for random Mystery Symbols represented by the briefcase. Up to 7 can land at one time. Watch them ALL transform into the SAME symbol from the paytable which increases the odds that you score a win.

Mystery Symbols rarely produce a big win in our experience and your focus should really be on triggering the Hold and Win Feature by landing three or more Money Symbols, represented by a gleaming tower block.

In this game round the game grid shifts to one with 11 rows on 5 reels. Each Money Symbol that triggered the round will remain on its reels, dropping to the bottom row. And each reel gets 3 lives and a multiplier, displayed at the top. The value of the multiplier correlates to the number of Money Symbols that appear on the reels as follows:

  • 0 to 5 Money Symbols – no multiplier
  • 6 Money Symbols – 2x multiplier
  • 7 Money Symbols – 5x multiplier
  • 8 Money Symbols – 10x multiplier
  • 9 Money Symbols – 20x multiplier
  • 10 Money Symbols – 30x multiplier
  • 11 Money Symbols – 100x multiplier

During the round only money symbols and blanks drop. The name of the game is to keep stacking money symbols on every reel. Any time a blank drops on a reel its lives drop by 1. Each time a Money Symbol lands, the lives re-set to 3. Once the counter hits a zero, that reel is blocked.

The game continues until ALL reels are blocked.

The total prize at the end of the round is calculated by adding the value of all money symbols on each reel and multiplying it by the multiplier value at the top, then adding all values together.

Our Verdict 7.0/10

If you enjoy glitzy-looking online slot games stacked with luxury icons and a sense of wealth and opulence then you’ll love Towering Fortunes gleaming exterior. The issue for us comes with what’s underneath. The gameplay is basic, and although the Hold and Spin round makes for an interesting way to trigger the big prizes, the top win of 6,442x falls well short of what you expect from games whose look appears to promise so much!

For bigger payouts you could of course track down the bigger wins available on games like Mega Fortune or Dream Drop Diamonds.
