There’s a cool supernatural atmosphere and a darkness to this game that other Anubis-themed slots share, making it feel quite dramatic. It kicks out wins at a good rate too – I saw 62 in 200 spins, more than 30% which is unusually high. There were mainly small though and I certainly burned down the balance quickly whilst waiting for a big moment to drop. It’s a waiting game and like most high variance slots, it can take a long time.

In fact I waited over 100 spins to see the Anubis Wild feature appear where extra wilds are added to the grid, then it dropped 7 times in the final 100 spins. But it was worth the wait, bringing in a 66x win on one spin shown in this screenshot.

I didn’t get to see the Anubis Re-spin at all, nor did the free spins round. That’s tells you all you need to know about the volatility of this game which looks like it will be very tight at times, requiring patience if you are to see success.

What’s that? Another Ancient Egyptian slot? Play’n Go absolutely love them, but so do we! They’ve had a run of hits, not least the Book of Dead series. So, it’s hardly surprising to see another one join the ranks.

Ankh of Anubis Awakening does mix things up slightly, bringing a strangely otherworldly element to proceedings. The choice of neon lighting makes this particular God of the Underworld feel as though he’s from an alien civilization. Whatever conspiracy theory you’re into, it looks cool. The whole thing is crisp, futuristic, and plays on a theme that we already know is popular.

The Final Verdict

It’s easy to pass off Ankh of Anubis Awakening as just another Ancient Egyptian slot from Play’n Go, but it’s actually pretty good. The theme has been significantly reworked, definitely taking inspiration from some Alien/Egyptian conspiracy theories. As a result, it feels futuristic and quite unlike Play’n Go’s other Ancient Egyptian slots. The unusual reel configuration only helps it to stand out more.

The base game play is fairly simple, but kept interesting with the Anubis Wild feature which really does help to amp up the size of the wins on offer. The free spins round too sees you soaring ever close to that tantalising 15,000x max win. Overall, it’s a slot that fans of the theme ought to enjoy and a welcome addition to the ever growing collection of Egyptian themed slots.
