Land of the Free is a satirical online slot from Nolimit City with a typically irreverent them and narrative. It features the Langford family, a good ‘ol God Fearin’ bunch sporting the stars and stripes and ready to defend their home country come what may.

I really enjoyed Land of the Free. It showed me a surprising amount of love over 200 spins with not one but TWO free spins in the first 100. The second feature brought up a 265.2x win. The hit rate during my play was 23% – a little under the average rate – and it felt like the wins were coming thick and fast, though many were under stake value. It felt like there was never a slow moment.

There is plenty of humour to enjoy and the conveyor belt regularly kicked out a bottle or two to add wilds to the reels and Mr Split appeared on 2 or 3 occasions and the Benzo Bear 3 times. Like all NLC slots the first 20 or so spins can be a bit of a whirlwind, but once you get the hang of it, this game is total entertainment all the way!

Nolimit City’s second game of January 2024 portrays an American family holed-up in their mountain retreat – ‘no trespassing’ – bearing arms and fearing an impending apocalypse. The style is adult cartoon with plenty of stars and stripes, American eagles and dumb hick references. When you hit the free spins round a tsunami washes away the land of the free and submerges our heroes in water!

Land of the Free has 5 reels and 4 rows. The 5th reel is locked in the base game but will unlock when a scatter lands anywhere on reels 1 to 4.

Premium pay symbols which are represented by the four characters can appear as partial or full stacks. Look out for them landing as full stacks because they will convert into Wild stacks.

As well as the standard pay symbols there are also Wilds which will substitute for any pay symbol to complete a payline. These appear on any reel.

Here’s what you can expect from the game features.

Conveyer Belt – This appears under the main reel set. This is a critical element of the game because it triggers changes on the reels above. Here are the modifiers that appear on the belt:

  • Crates – if one bottle is in the crate then a pay symbol on the reel above becomes wild. If two bottles are in the crate then after one pay symbol on the reel above is turned wild, then it splits in two.
  • Protein Powder Keg – Any partially stacked symbol on the reel above becomes fully stacked.
  • Benzo Bear – appears on the reel above to convert 3 to 8 symbols into Wilds or Scatters.

Mr Split and Chainsaw – Mr Split is a special character that only lands on reel 5 as half stacked in the base game. He triggers every symbol across one row to be split.

He also appears fully stacked in free spins where he will cause ALL symbols below the water line (see below) to be split.

Watch out for the chainsaw which is active when Mr Split is on reel 5. The chainsaw will add extra splits to symbols on its own reel.

Titan Spins – watch out for the submarines that appear in both base game and bonus rounds. They float across the screen and trigger a Titan Spin. Keep your eye on the submarine window. If a president character appears then a one off big win is tiggered at 15,000x, 25,000x or 57,000x!

Free Spins

There are two available free spins rounds.

Tsunami Spins is triggered by landing 3, 4 or 5 scatters which gets you 12, 15 or 20 spins. To start, the bottom 2 rows will be submerged in water. But the level keeps rising and once 4 rows are submerged, then the round is upgraded to Submerged Spins.

Rubber Ducks – look out for Rubber Ducks during either free spins round. They randomly appear and float across the screen. Each duck gets you 2 more spins AND increases the water level by 1 row.  

The Final Verdict

Land of the Free looks like a typical Nolimit City slot. It’s not afraid to be controversial, it is weird and humorous, and it comes with tons of win potential.
