Channeling The Dark Energy Of The Best Horrors With Trademark Humour
Nolimit City have gone full horror mode once again in Possessed a game that invokes elements of the scariest movies of all time. I can certainly see bits of The Exorcist, The Ring and Insidious here, and no doubt there are many others. The action takes place in a child’s bedroom, the only light is from the moon outside and 5 reels await those brave enough to spin them. Flaming crosses, possessed kids screaming and writhing, earnest priests and prayer books all inhabit the reels. You get the idea. It’s 100% an NLC game, and laced with dark humour throughout.
RTP and Variance
Our Score 8
What is RTP?RTP (Return to Player) refers to the amount a game will pay out in cash prizes expressed as a percentage of all the money wagered on that game. For example, a 96% RTP means a game will pay out £96 for every £100 wagered. This is an average number and will vary from one session to the next. Read more here.
What is Variance?Variance refers to how far a game will deviate from its RTP over time. High variance games deviate a lot and produce uneven win distributions and unexpected windfalls. Low variance games provide a more stable and even distribution of wins. Read more here.
Possessed has four available RTP settings at 96.06%, 94.10%, 92.07% and 87.05%. This is standard for NLC slots which give operators the option to choose whichever RTP rate they prefer for their players.
You want to avoid casinos where the RTP is at the lower rates, and ideally find one where it runs at 96.06%. In my experience, MrQ from Lindar Media is your best option for NLC slots. Their policy is to always set the game to the optimum level. Any White Hat Gaming casino is another good option. They will normally run at either of the top two rates.
Our Score 9
What Is Maximum Win?Maximum win refers to the maximum amount a player can win from one spin. It is expressed as a multiple of the stake. For example, where the maximum win is 100,000x, from a £1 stake, the maximum win would be £100,000.
The maximum payout from any game round in Possessed is 50,000x which is very good. As with all the latest NLC games, this event is given a name. In this case, Blasphemous! Any win over 50,000x will be rounded down. It means you can win £5,000 with just a 10p stake. You can find more games like this in our list of Nolimit City’s highest max win slots, recently updated with this year’s latest slots.
I should add that the odds of winning that 50,000x are 1 in 12.7 million. But if you think it can’t happen, think again. Max wins in NLC games do happen, and with 1,000s of players spinning every week, it will keep happening.
Symbols and Paytable
Our Score 8
Possessed is played on five reels, with a 3-6-6-6-3 (naturally!) row configuration. It is a win ways game which means to trigger a win you need to match 3 or more identical symbols on adjacent reels, regardless of their row position, from left to right starting at the left most reel.
That creates 11,664 win ways per spin (3x6x6x6x3).
Features and Gameplay
Our Score 8
Possessed is stacked with some very familiar NLC features. Here is how it looks.
Wilds and xNudge Wilds
One of the first things you will notice about the reel set in Possessed is that there is an upside down cross centred on the middle reel. This is significant for the wild symbols.
Wilds can ONLY land on the middle reel. If they land on the join of the cross – where the upright meets the cross bar – then the ENTIRE cross becomes wild with a 2x multiplier. But if a wild lands anywhere else on the middle reel part of the cross then EVERY position on the middle reel which is part of the cross turns wild with a multiplier.
xWays and Infectious xWays
When a fiery xWays symbol lands then it will display 2 or 3 of the same pay symbol, opening up the chance for more win ways to run through it.
Alternatively, if a fiery Infectious xWays symbol lands, then not only does it display 2 of the same pay symbol type, but it infects all other identical pay symbols that appear ANYWHERE else on the reels so that they too become 2 paying symbols. This opens up many more win ways and the chance to score more payouts.
If an xActivation symbol drops in the base game, then a re-spin is activated.
First though, an area of the reels in a cross shape is highlighted and 3 positions are on the cross are activated. Then, one symbol is chosen from the xCrucifix reel that sits to the left of the game area, and it is used to fill those active positions.
If another xActivation lands on the re-spin, then another symbol is picked from the xCrucifix reel and added to another position on the cross.
Each time a symbol is taken from the xCrucifix reel, it is the lowest available one. This continues until the cross is full.
Three Free Spins Rounds
There are three levels of free spins, starting with Necromancy Spins and upgrading each time another scatter lands.
Necromancy Free Spins – 3 scatters in the base game awards 9 Necromancy Spins where 3 positions on the cross are activated. And, if you land another scatter during the round this will get you one more spin and an upgrade to Atonement.
Atonement Free Spins – 4 scatters in the base game or 1 scatter landed during Necromancy Spins triggers the Atonment Free Spins feature with 12 spins where 4 positions on the cross are activated. And, if you land another scatter during the round this will get you one more spin and an upgrade to Beelzebub.
Beelzebub Free Spins – 5 scatters in the base game or 1 scatter landed during Atonement Spins triggers the Beelzebub Free Spins feature with 15 spins where ALL positions on the cross are activated. And, if you land another scatter during the round this will get you one more spin.
The Final Verdict
Possessed will appeal to anyone who enjoyed games like Mental and Book of Shadows from the same studio. It’s in-yer-face horror theme might put some people off, but that never bothered NLC. Those who stick around can enjoy the chase of an immense max win and the pleasure of what looks to be a really fun new feature in the xActivation. Triggering 3 re-spins with the cross filled with high value premiums could be massive. The countdown to launch has begun …
Useful Tips When Playing Possessed
Remember, online slots are games of chance, there is NO strategy that can improve your odds of winning. However, reading our review and following these tips will help you get the most out of your time playing this slot game.
1. Play In Demo Mode
With games like this one with a high variance and new, unfamiliar features, it often makes sense to play in demo mode to get a feel for the game before spending your own cash. You can do this at Casumo Casino.
2. Play At Low Stakes
I also recommend playing at a low stake when faced with ‘Extreme’ volatility! Good bankroll management is the name of the game here, stretching your funds as you chase down those free spins rounds. This game is available from 20p per spin.
3. Look Out For Infectious xWays Symbols In The Base Game
One of NLC’s popular features, Infectious xWays are a great way to build payouts through extra win ways. Look out for the symbols landing, they will turn one pay symbol into 2 and spread that across the reels where identical pay symbols have landed.
4. Play At Our Recommended Slot Sites
We have chosen the sites on this page because they are licensed by the UK Gambling Commission. That means they offer fair, safe and secure gambling with responsible gambling tools to help manage your spend.
