How We Review Slot Games

We test and rate all slot games across 5 criteria, assigning a score out of 10 for each and an overall score that is an average of the 5. To build an accurate assessment of each game we gather information from the supplier and play in real play or demo mode. Find out more.

Brick Snake 2000 is a 5×5 win ways online slot by Nolimit City, inspired by a classic game from the early days of mobile phones. The base game includes xWays and Wilds but it’s the two free spins rounds where things get interesting. Sneks are added to the grid, and they move and grow between spins, consuming coins and multipliers to build prizes. They can also sprout new heads and even eat Max Win coins that trigger an 8,110x top win. That max prize comes with a Double or Nothing 50/50 game too! Spins start from 20p per play.

What Our Reviewer Says ...

"Inventive stuff once again from NLC with a classic mobile phone game from history re-ignited in online slot form!"

Overall Score: 8.0

Theme & Design

Our Score 8

NLC are taking inspiration from the classic Snake mobile phone game that was popular back in the 90s(?) and early 2000s’ when mobile phones looked like bricks and certainly couldn’t play Netflix films. The 5×5 grid sits in the screen space of what looks like a classic Nokia 3210 – one of the most popular handsets from that time. On the reels and paytable you’ll notice some familiar characters from another recent NLC game – Nine to Five. The style is typically offbeat and chaotic and if you enjoy the irreverent humour of other NLC games, you’ll love this one too.

RTP and Variance

Our Score 8

What is RTP?

RTP (Return to Player) refers to the amount a game will pay out in cash prizes expressed as a percentage of all the money wagered on that game. For example, a 96% RTP means a game will pay out £96 for every £100 wagered. This is an average number and will vary from one session to the next.  Read more here.

What is Variance?

Variance refers to how far a game will deviate from its RTP over time. High variance games deviate a lot and produce uneven win distributions and unexpected windfalls. Low variance games provide a more stable and even distribution of wins. Read more here.

Brick Snake 2000 has a top RTP of 96.03% but like almost all NLC slots it will also come with lower settings and it will be at your slot sites’ discretion to choose which rate to run the game at. Ideally of course you want to play at the best available setting.

You can check for yourself by hitting the hamburger button to the bottom left of the reels then scrolling through the game info screen until you see the Return to Player setting. If it’s less than 96.03% you should try another site. I recommend playing at MrQ from Lindar Media which consistently runs slots at the optimum RTP.

It’s not surprise to learn that this is a volatile game. But how volatile? NLC rate it as ‘Insane’ which is their highest volatility setting. Other games with this rating include Tombstone RIP and San Quentin xWays. If you’ve ever played those slots, you’ll know what this is about with irregular, but larger payouts, rather than an even spread.

Maximum Win

Our Score 7

What Is Maximum Win?

Maximum win refers to the maximum amount a player can win from one spin. It is expressed as a multiple of the stake. For example, where the maximum win is 100,000x, from a £1 stake, the maximum win would be £100,000.

There is an interesting twist in the top payout number for Brick Snake 2000. Surprisingly … very surprisingly for an NLC slot, the max win is just 8,110x. You read that right. The developer famous for some of the highest max win slots of all time is delivering a game with a top win under 10,000x.

Or are they? Yes … and no. Because if you land that win you will be given the chance to Double or Nothing. That means you bet on doubling up the max win to 16,220x, or losing it all! That’s some choice at 50/50!

Features and Gameplay

Our Score 9

Brick Snake 2000 is not short of features. Here they are, with a description of how each one works:

xWays

First up, this is an xWays game. That means there are special xWays symbols, in this case looking like 80s portable computer discs! When they land they reveal a mini stack of the same pay symbol between 2 and 5 symbols high. This creates more ways to form winning lines of symbols.

In addition, where more than one xWays symbols appears on one spin, then EVERY xWays will show the same pay symbols in its stack.

Moving Wild Sneks

In the base game there are Wild Sneks. These special symbols act as standard wilds, substituting for pay symbols to complete wins. But they also move UP TO 5 places in any direction after they land, causing every position they move over to convert into a wild too. They also turn xWays stacks into wilds when they move over them.

Sneks and Free Spins

The real fun in Brick Snake 2000 starts when the free spins rounds trigger. You need to land 3, 4 or 5 scatters – symbols with an ‘S’ on them – to trigger these features.

Snek Spins are awarded when 3 or 4 scatters land. If you land 3 then the round starts with one Snek in the position of your 3rd scatter. If you land 4 then it starts with 2 in the position of your 3rd and 4th scatters.

Super Snek Spins – you’ll need to land 5 scatters to trigger the Super version. Then the 3rd and 4th of the 5 scatters turn into Sneks at the start of the round.

During free spins your Sneks will move around the grid, consuming various symbols and activating as they go. Sneks can move in ANY direction and they wrap around when they hit any side of the grid. So, if they hit the top, they re-appear at the bottom, and same for bottom to top, left to right, and right to left.

Here are the prizes and other features that a Snek can consume:

Coins – standard coins have values of 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 10x or 100x.

Collector 2000 – this symbol will add the value of all visible coins to its own value at the start of each spin. If a Snek consumes a Collector 2000 then the value of the Collector 2000 at that time will be added to a coin value counter, then THAT value is multiplied by the current value of the Collector 2000! A bit like a snake eating its own tail … it just gets bigger, right???!

NOTE: Collector 2000s MUST be consumed within 4 steps or they disappear for that spin, only to reappear for the next one.

MaxWin Coins – are valued at 8,110x!

Egg – this tasty snack causes the Snek to produce another head from its tail.

Multiplier – multiplier symbols have values of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 10. If one of these is eaten then the multiplier is applied to the value of all coins.

Up – your Snek Spins are upgraded to Super Snek Spins once the round ends.

Slayer – you want to avoid these. If the Snek eats one it dies.

You can have as many as THREE Sneks in play at any time. When there is more than one then they move one at a time, starting with the oldest.

Sneks die if they eat their own tails OR a Slayer symbol. And once all Sneks are dead, the round ends.

Boosted xBet

You can increase your odds of hitting the free spins round by choosing a Boosted xBet. This costs 5% more than your base bet level and GUARANTEES you a scatter on reel 2. The bottom row of the grid is also disabled in this case so that the Moving Wild Sneks cannot enter that space.

The Final Verdict

You can always count on NLC to come up with something like nothing that came before. And whilst it might be based on a classic mobile phone game, Brick Snake 2000 is certainly like no other online slot we’ve played. The mechanics of the original Snake are nicely woven into the bonus round and you can see where the monster wins might come from – namely the Collector 2000 coin, a few good multipliers and 2 or 3 Sneks in play at one time. Purists might quibble about the (relatively) low max win, but there is even a twist there with that Double or Nothing gamble. It’s awesome stuff once again as NLC continue to set the standard in 2024.

Useful Tips When Playing Brick Snake 2000

Remember, online slots are games of chance, there is NO strategy that can improve your odds of winning. However, reading our review and following these tips will help you get the most out of your time playing this slot game.

1. Set A Low Stake And Be Patient

By NLC’s own ratings this is an ‘insane’ volatility slot. That means it can drain your balance in no time. So exercise good bankroll management and choose a low stake relative to your balance to avoid burn out!

2. Look Out For Eggs To Create More Sneks

In the free spins round an extra Snek is added to the grid when one consumes an Egg. You want up to three Sneks on the reels at once to maximise your wins, so look out for those eggs and hope your Snek eats one!

3. Play At Maximum RTP

Don’t play at less than 96.03% RTP. Some casinos will chose lower RTP rates. Check the game info screen and don’t play if the setting is too low.

4. Play At Our Recommended UK Slot Sites

We have chosen the sites on this page because they carry a UK license. That means they are fair, safe and secure to play at. All games have been tested by a 3rd party testing house and bonuses are fair too. Never play at unlicensed sites!
