About This Slot

NOTE: Screenshots and Videos on this page are taken whilst we played this game for real money at Casumo Casino.

Magic Piggy is a five reel, five row slot from Hacksaw Gaming, released in February 2023. It’s a jaunty game with happy-looking pigs and a simple gameplay and mid-variance maths model that opens it up to a wider audience than Hacksaw’s darker, high-risk output. It’s a simple game – Magic Hats are the catalyst to bigger payouts as they transform Piggys into stacks of cash and multiplier coins when they land at the same time.

Design and Artwork

Swinging wildly from light to dark is Hacksaw’s way and following the horror-fest of Bloodthirst, Magic Piggy is at the other extreme. This is light-hearted game in the same mode as something like Pug Life, with cute oinking piggies and a bright, cheerful backdrop and game grid, resplendent in primary golds, yellows, greens and reds. Stacks of coins and fruit machine symbols give a slightly retro-feel to the game.

Watch out as well for the adorable, or infuriating depending on your mood, plinky-plonk soundtrack playing relentlessly in the background.

RTP, Variance and Top Payout

Magic Piggy slot has four potential RTP settings from 96.19% down to 88.24%. Which you play at is at the discretion of your casino. We checked the RTP setting at four of our favourite slot sites. This is what we found:

  • Casumo (Indpendent): 94.47%
  • BacanaPlay (Skill on Net): 92.32%
  • Temple Nile (White Hat Gaming): 94.47%
  • Spin Rio (Aspire Global): 92.32%

Therefore, we recommend playing at Casumo or Temple Nile to get the best value for your wagering.

Magic Piggy is one of Hacksaw’s less volatile games with a medium volatility rating. This puts it in the same category as slots like Frank’s Farm or Fruit Duel by the same studio. In testing we found the wins to be evenly balanced but it was still a tough ask to break into that bonus round.

Top Payout

For a medium variance Hacksaw Gaming slot, Magic Piggy has a decent top payout of 7,500x which is on a par with last year’s Pug Life, but under more volatile releases like Itero and Hand of Anubis which both pay out up to 10,000x.

Symbols and Graphics

Magic Piggy has just 19 paylines on its 5×5 grid. You’ll need to land three or more identical symbols across the reels from left to right to score a win.

Low paying symbols are the cards, 10 through to Ace. These start with low values at the bottom end – just 0.1x for three 10s for example – but increase up to a good value 3x for five of a kind Aces.

Better value can be found in the premium symbols – cherries, lemons, plums, horseshoes and diamonds. There are valued at from 1x for three cherries up to a massive 30x for five diamonds.

The spcial Magic Piggy symbol itself is not worth much – 0.1x, 0.3x or 1x for 3, 4 or 5 of a kind. But remember, it delivers much more when in combination with the magic hat!

There is also a wild which subs in for all other symbols to complete wins AND pays out 30x for five on a line. Keep in mind that these don’t just drop onto the board, they can also appear when the Magic Hat reveals itself to be a Wild.

What We Like

High max payout for medium variance
  Fun theme and upbeat style
Exciting bonus round with Piggy Meters
Good paytable value - 30x for 5 diamonds
Beware of low RTP settings at some sites

What We Don't Like

Won't appeal to hardcore high risk fans

Gameplay and Features

There are two things to be looking out for in Magic Piggy.

Firstly, wait for the Magic Hat to land at the same time as the Piggy. When this happens, the Magic Hat reveals itself to be either a Wild or a Stack of Bills worth between 1x and 1,000x. Whatever it is, any Piggy(s) visible on the reels become the same thing.

When they all turn into Bill Stacks, then those are all added together before the total is multiplied by your bet to calculate the payout.

But that’s not all. Sometimes one or more Magic Piggys turn into multiplier coins whose value (1x to 5x) is applied to one or more Bill Stacks.

The second thing to look out for is the Pig Bonus Free Spins round, triggered by 3 or more free spins symbols. That gets you 10 spins.

Now the game shifts gear on us and it’s all about filling each of FIVE meters above the reels. This is done by landing Stars and Super Stars. Stars only add points to the meter on the reel they land on, but Super Stars add points to ALL meters.

But whatever happens, keep filling those reels because next time a Magic Hat lands, then on every reel, an amount of Piggys lands equal to the value in the meter. That’s an abundance of Piggys all transforming into Bill Stacks, Wilds or Multiplier Coins! With each Magic Hat event, the meters re-set to zero.

You can also add to your Free Spins total by filling all five meters completely – 10 free spins; or landing three more Free Spins symbols during a bonus round – 4 free spins.

Or you can unlock a Epig Bonus round with a guaranteed minimum 10 free spins by landing four free spins symbols at the same time in the bonus round. In this case, the meters do NOT re-set after a Magic Hat event – so they just keep on building.

Our Verdict

Magic Piggy is a super-fun game with more potential than most other medium variance Hacksaw Gaming slots. It gives off the vibe of a simple slot with its cheerful pigs and bright colors but it can actually deliver some pretty spectacular win sequences in its bonus rounds. Testing in demo mode through the Hacksaw Gaming site we bought into the Epig Free Spins round where meters do NOT re-set and practically filled the screen with Wilds at one point, leading to a huge pay out.

So, don’t underestimate the pig! It might not have the glowing red devil eyes of a Hand of Anubis but it can still pack some punch! Game on!
