An Ornate and Grandiose Slot Design

Prism of Gems doesn’t blow you away with its production but it does have a certain charm to it. For whatever reason the game is housed in a glass-domed building that could be a museum of some kind. Maybe this reel set is the main attraction with its stunning collection of gem treasures?! Who knows?

The reels themselves have an ornate look with green gilded iron framework and a sort of marble background to the pay symbols whilst the gems shimmer from time to time and the scatter is like a giant round stain glass affair. It feels like Play n Go have given this one a grandiose-r atmosphere than the previous Gems games, perhaps to reflect the much-enhanced potential.

Prism of Gems has 5 RTP settings – 96.24%, 94.25%, 91.24%, 87.25% and 84.25%. This is typical for Play n Go games. It’s worth checking the info screen in the game to be sure that you are playing at a reasonable setting before you spend any more. 96.24% or 94.25% are most common and I wouldn’t play at less. Symbols and Paytable

I like the interesting set up in this game.

Let’s start by saying that it is a win ways slot. That means wins are triggered by landing identical symbols on adjacent reels from from left to right regardless of the row they are on.

There are 5 reels in total, built in a pyramid-shape with 3 rows on the outermost reels and 4 on the 3 middle reels. That gives you 576 win ways (3x4x4x4x3). But that can change. The top row on the middle 3 performs a special function that can trigger symbol splits to create up to 7 rows on these reels. At that point, the win ways increase to 3,087 (3x7x7x7x3).

Symbol values themselves are not huge, but there is a lot in the form of multipliers, plus the expanding reels, to power up your wins, so don’t be put off.

Low payers are the cards, 9 though to Ace. They are valued at from 0.1x for 3 9s up to 0.7x for 5 Aces. The premiums are the four colored gemstones themselves – pink, green, yellow, blue - that pay out from 0.5x for 3 pinks up to 3x for 5 blues.

There is also a Wild icon which substitutes for all other symbols except the scatter to form wins.

Features and Gameplay

Cascading Wins, Multiplier Reels and Progressive Multipliers

At the heart of all the action in Prism of Gems are Win Cascades. These occur whenever there is a win. Winning symbols are removed and new ones drop in to replace them. This can trigger more wins, causing the process to repeat. And so on, until no more wins occur.

The clever part about this game is that Play n Go have found a new way to build multipliers in response to Cascading Wins helped by a split reel set effect where the extra row on reels 2, 3 and 4 is a 3x1 reel that spins horizontally rather than vertically. This is called the Multiplier Reel. It spins first and settles to display a pay symbol with a multiplier value in each position.

When the main reels settle, if a Cascade occurs on reels 2, 3 or 4 then the multiplier on the corresponding Multiplier Reel above increases by 1x. So if reel 2 cascades then the multiplier on reel 2 on the Multiplier reel will increase by 1x.

Multipliers can keep increasing until they reach 7x and they apply to any win that includes the symbol from the Multiplier Reel. And the best part? They multiply together when more than one is part of a win. That can create multipliers of up to 343x (7x7x7).

But that is not the only function of the Multiplier Reel. If a symbol landing on reels 2, 3 or 4 matches the one in the multiplier reel above then it automatically splits into 2. That can turn the 3 rows into 6. Or better still, if a wild lands on the Multiplier Reel then all the symbols that land below split into two.

Free Spins Round Where Multiplier Do NOT Re-Set 

If you are wondering how you get anywhere near that 30,000x win, here is a big clue!

The Free Spins round is triggered by landing 3, 4, or 5 scatters anywhere on the reels on one spin. This gives you 10, 15, or 20 free spins, respectively. Any multipliers active on the horizontal reel at this point are carried into the bonus round. But more importantly, during the free spins the multipliers do not re-set between spins – they are cumulative. And, any additional scatters that land will collect you a further 2 free spins without limit.
