Theme and Design

Undead Fortune is a slot with great atmosphere for sure, invoked by a unrelenting mix of monster visuals and sparse sounds. There is a little bit of Hand of Anubis about it, no question. The soundtrack and a similarly terrifying beast to the side of the reels, though this time a King Cobra, are reminiscent of that game. But in truth Undead Fortune is an original in its own right and surely the most sinister mix of zombie and ancient Egypt ever committed to the reels!

The action is set in an Ancient Egyptian tomb with a towering 5x4 reels framed by stone with Egyptian symbols carved into it. The scene is illuminated by sickly yellow light and the game is inhabited by dead pharaohs who come to life, slashing at the front of your screen in 3-d in true video game style. The dark design and theme is perfectly set for high volatility gaming. This is no Fruit Duel, that’s for sure!

Maximum Win

The top win in Undead Fortune is 10,000x. This is typical of a high variance game from Hacksaw. There are a few with bigger potential, such as Stormforged or Cursed Seas (both 12,500x) that you could try. Symbols and Paytable

Undead Fortune is a basic 5 reel and 4 row slot with just 10 fixed paylines. In the usual way wins are triggered by landing 3 or more identical symbols from left to right on those paylines, starting on the left-most reel.

Symbol values in this game are modest, but as a typical Hacksaw game there are lots of big multipliers available to boost those wins. Low paying symbols are the cards, 10 through to Ace, valued at from 0.1x for 3 10s through to 1.5x for 5 Aces. Premiums are all the scary-looking undead monsters with different colored backgrounds and flashing green eyes. Their payouts range from 0.5x for 3 up to 10x for five on a payline.

There are also Wilds that sub in for any other symbol to form a win AND pay out 10x for five on a line. They come in standard format and as expanding Walking Wilds that are triggered in the bonus rounds and bring multipliers and monster battles into play.

Features and Gameplay

Outside of the standard paytable, scoring wins here is all about the Walk Vs and Expand VS Symbols. These expand and turn wild to trigger monster battles and add multipliers to the reels like this:

Walking Duels – Expanding Wilds and Multipliers

Walking Duels are set up by the Walk VS symbol. It always expands to cover the full reel height and display a multiplier of 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x, 7x, 10x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 50x, 100x, 150x and 200x. As it does, a monster is revealed. However, the multiplier only becomes active if the monster is defeated in a duel. This is a completely chance-based duel, you can’t influence it. Instead, you know the monster is defeated because it will burn up!

If you win, the multiplier is applied to all positions on the reel and applied to winlines that pass through it. And a re-spin is granted. On your re-spin, the Walking Duel expanded symbol moves to the left, initiating another battle.

This process continues until either the monster prevails or your Walking Duel falls off the edge of the reel set. At this point, all wins are calculated with the multipliers and paid out.

Expanding DuelReels – Like Walking Duels, But Expanding Sideways

The other type of Wild is the Expand VS symbol that lands on reels 2 to 5. This also triggers a duel, but in this case rather than walking to the left, the Wild EXPANDS and the multiplier value is SAVED every time the monster is defeated.

With each expansion, another battle ensues with a new multiplier. If the monster is defeated again, the Expanding Duel expands left again and the multiplier value is added to the existing total.

Again, when the monster wins or the Expanding Duel hits the edge of the grid, then the wins are calculated and paid out.

The Curse Bonus Round – Free Spins

This is simple. Landing THREE Curse symbols on reels 1, 3 and 5 triggers The Curse Bonus Game. Here you get 10 free spins with better odds of a Walk VS or Expand VS.

The Tomb Bonus Round – Earn Extra Multipliers

The one you really want is the Tomb Bonus Round, triggered by landing THREE Tomb scatters on reels 1, 3 and 5.

This bonus is all about building a big, big multiplier value that will be applied to your stake to calculate the overall win at the end of the game. This overall multiplier is the total of 5 reel multipliers, one displayed above each reel.

During the round  only Tomb VS, Epic VS, Unlock, Golden Unlock or non-paying symbols can land. Each time a Tomb VS symbol lands on an ACTIVE reel it unlocks a monster and multiplier and a duel ensues. Defeating the monster adds the multiplier value to the one at the top of the reel. BUT … if the monster wins … the reel is LOCKED. Alternatively you can land an Epic VS symbol which turns the entire reel set into a Duel board with monsters and multipliers. If you win, then a multiplier of 2x to 200x is applied to the value above EVERY reel OR a value of 25x to 200x is added to EACH reel.

Once all reels are locked, then the game is over and your win is calculated from the 5 multipiler values.

What makes things more interesting is that you can both lock AND unlock reels by landing FOUR Unlock Symbols OR a Golden Unlock Symbol.
