Fabulous Visuals and Soundtrack In This Vintage Cartoon Slot

Charlie Chance XReelZ is an awesome production and I consequently loved testing this game. It has a distinct design style reminiscent of early silent films and cartoons. The first game, Charlie Chance in Hell To Pay, saw Charlie in the fiery depths being tormented by a devilish red-headed diva. This time, perhaps not hell but still some scary, cavernous space with spiders, spider webs, cartoon cats and little devils scurrying around. There is also that diva on the reels again.

Play n Go have really captured the style of vintage cartoons nicely here and there are some great animations when the main XReelZ feature comes into play at the top of the game, rolled out by two skulls with long tongues, or when the Wilds land and burst into flames. You’ll enjoy the soundtrack too, a kind of jazzy, Tom and Jerry-style affair.

RTP and Variance

Charlie Chance XReelZ slot has five RTP settings – 96.25%, 94.27%, 91.27%, 87.26% or 84.26%. Most UK casinos will run the game at one of the top 2 settings, but some opt for a lower one, so be careful. Ideally you want to be playing at 96.25% for the best chance of winning. The top payout in Charlie Chance XReelZ is 20,000x. That makes it the highest-paying potential of the three Chance Chance games to date (Hell To Pay sits at 6,666x and Curse of Cleopatra at 5,500x). It also puts this game up there amongst some of Play n Go’s highest paying slots, though a long way short of their top paying game, Kiss Reels of Rock (50,000x).

Symbols and Paytable

Charlie Chance XReelZ is played on 5 reels with 3 rows on each. What I do like about this game is that it’s a Win Ways slot which means you score wins for identical symbols on adjacent reels from left to right, regardless of the row they are on. That creates 243 win ways on each spin.

Symbol values are not particularly great on the most part, apart from Charlie himself who can get you a 20x for 5 on a line.

The low payers are the card suits, clubs, diamonds, hearts and spades. These are valued at from 0.1x for 3 clubs up to 0.5x for 5 spades. The picture premium symbols are the triple 6, the bells, the devils and Charlie. These are valued at from 0.4x for 3 triple 6s up to 2x for 5 devils, or 2x, 10x or 20x for 3, 4 or 5 Charlies.

We also have Wilds in the mix which substitute for all other symbols to complete Win Ways, but also have good value when creating their own Win Way. They are valued at 3x, 15x or 30x for 3, 4 or 5 on a line.  They also trigger an important feature which I will explain in the next section.

Features and Gameplay

It's All About Multiplier And Wild Combinations And A Super-Charged Bonus Round

I really like the configuration of the features in Charlie Chance XReelZ. Central to the gameplay is a Wild Multiplier feature that gets powered-up for the free spins round. It’s not overcomplicated but the good part is, it seemed to trigger regularly in testing to keep things flowing nicely.

XReelZ Multiplier Appears Above The Main Reel Set

The first thing to note is that there is an additional 5x1 XreelZ that sits above the main one. This only shows multipliers and only comes into play when a Wild is included in Win Way below. When this happens the reel displaying the Wild is highlighted and the XreelZ spins horizontally. When it rests, then the multiplier value displayed in the XreelZ spot over the highlighted reel is applied to all wins on the respective reel.

Second Chance Re-Spins Feature To Activate Free Spins

You need to land at least 3 scatters – the red-headed damsel – to unlock the bonus feature. However, Play n Go give you a helping hand here. Because if you hit 2 scatter symbols on the reels on one spin, then the Second Chance Re-Spins feature is activated.

Now, your 2 reels with the scatters will lock in position and the other 3 reels will spin once again. So, a second chance to land 3 or more and move onto the main event.

If you are going to get anywhere near to that 20,000x max win you will need to get into the free spins round. That requires 3, 4 or 5 scatters with an enhanced XreelZ. For that you get the following:

The important part here is that you are GUARANTEED to land a Wild-XeelZ  on every spin. However, that does NOT mean a guaranteed win. That Hellfire round starts to look very appealing now with 10 spins and a minimum 8x multiplier on any win including a Wild.
