NextGen Gaming was established in 1999 to produce online slot games for land-based casinos. With the explosion in online casinos over the following decade the company turned its eyes to that lucrative market. Their games attracted the attention of bigger players in the industry and in 2011 NextGen was acquired by NYX Interactive, who were later acquired themselves by SG Digital, now called Light and Wonder. They are part of a big family of slot providers that includes Barcrest, WMS and Bally Technologies.
The NextGen catalogue is a mixed bag but it certainly includes some cult classics as well as top quality high variance games. Here are some highlights.
Top Games
For a long-time the slot for which NextGen was best known was 300 Shields, a game inspired by the famous Spartan army from Ancient Greek times. It’s high variance and simple free spins round with re-triggers and multipliers of up to 300x captivated slots fans on its release in 2014, and later became a favourite of the streamer community on Twitch.
Other top titles include Foxin Wins, a low-mid variance games with a 2,000x max win featuring a well-to-do fox stashing his cash, and Medusa II, a medium variance game based on the legend of Medusa with features including locking reels in the free spins round.
Branded Slots
NextGen Gaming have also produced a few good branded games based on movies which are worth a look. Favourites include The Mask, based on the Jim Carey film, King Kong Fury and Judge Dredd.
Megaways™ Slots
More recently NextGen have made use of their license to build games on the Big Time Gaming Megaway’s slots engine. The best is absolutely Medusa Megaways™, an expanding reels version of one of their most popular slots. It utilises the classic 117,649 win ways format and maxes out at a massive 50,000x top win.
