Fun, Dumb Hooligan Action From Play n Go

Hooligan Hustle takes its inspiration from the culture of rioting football fans. It’s not serious comment on public disorder though, but has a more carefree, scappy vibe with rival hooligans fighting it out in the background whilst a Libertines-style soundtrack accompanies the mayhem. The paytable is populated with instruments of violence like knuckledusters and bricks, whilst the lairy protagonists are straight out of a John King novel. It looks a little like Play n Go have been taking inspiration from No Limit City as it comes across a bit like a Punk Toilet, or San Quentin xWays. Overall, it’s fun, if a little dumb in places.

RTP and Variance

There are five available RTP settings for Hooligan Hustle – 96.27%, 94.27%, 91.25%, 87.27% or 84.24%. Most sites run the game at one of the highest two settings but some choose a lower one so it’s worth checking the RTP on the game info screen before you spend your money to make sure you are getting good value.

This is also a high variance slot so you can expect a lot of volatility. But with its mix of multipliers and splitting symbols described below it has the potential to kick out some big wins on occasion too.

Symbols and Paytable

Hooligan Hustle plays out on a 5 reel and 3 row reel set. It is a Win Ways game. That means wins are awarded for landing identical symbols on adjacent reels, regardless of the row they land on, from left to right starting with the left-most reel.

Symbol values are not big. The low value ones are the make-shift weapons of hooliganism, such as crowbars, knuckledusters, beer glasses, bricks and terrifying spiked clubs. These are valued at from 0.15x for 3 bricks up to 0.75x for 5 knuckle dusters. The premiums are represented by the 4 angry looking hooligan protagonists who can award from 0.75x for 3 up to 3x for 5 of a kind.

There is also a Wild that can substitute in for pay symbols to complete win ways. This will also pay out 3x when 5 land at once – one on each reel.

Features and Gameplay

I liked the feature set up in Hooligan Hustle. It’s simple to follow and there are some nice modifiers to look out for, randomly triggering on any spin. There is also a free spins round where you get to pick from 3 configurations.

Here is how it works:

Random Rumble Row Modifiers

Along the top of the reels lies the Rumble Row. After each spin, above any reel, this row can display one of three modifiers. They don’t always show, so don’t expect it on every spin. However, when they do, the Rumble Reel Modifiers are applied to the reel directly below.

These are the modifiers:

• Wild Reel – Stacked Wilds will land to cover the entire reel with Wild Symbols
• Double Trouble – 2 reels are synchronised to contain all the same symbols
• Multiplier – 2x Multipliers are applied to all payouts from win ways passing through the reel 

Increase Win Ways With Splitting Symbols

One symbol is randomly chosen to split during any spin. The split feature applies to all instances of the same symbol appearing anywhere across the reels. This can be huge as it  can increase the win ways up to a massive 248,832 in total depending on how many of the same symbol appear on your spin.

Mystery Symbol Transformations

When a box lands with a ? on it, that is a Mystery Symbol. These will all transform into the same symbol when the reels stop, giving you an increased chance of landing winning combinations.
