For Wild Falls 2 (December 2022) Play n Go take us once more to the idyllic setting of the Yukon River destination for many a gold-seeker in the 19th Century, hoping to sift through the dirt and dust to find nuggets of shiny metal that can make their fortune. And so it is with this slot game!

Those who have played the original Wild Falls will be familiar with what is on offer here including the same picturesque backdrop and mix of wilds, free spins and multipliers. Except for the sequel Play n Go have brought the game up to date with an expanding reels feature that can increase paylines from 20 to 40 and a significantly higher top payout at 15,000x.

The Wild Falls 2 set up doesn’t change from the original that much. We are still enjoying the backdrop of a pleasant hillside, dotted with gold mines, fir trees and rocks. Flowing down the center of the screen is the river itself, divided into four reels with three rows extending to four or five as more barrels land.

If you like your Bonanza-style mining slots then you’ll enjoy this one, complete with relentless twanging banjo soundtrack. It won’t be for everyone, but some will love it!

Wild Falls 2 is set on a 5 reel grid with 3 rows on each, extending to 5 in the Rapid Re-Spins feature. There are 20 fixed paylines in play, extending to 40 when all 5 reels have 5 rows. You’ll need to land three or more identical symbols across the reels from left to right along a payline to score a win.

Symbol values are good, getting better as you move up the paytable.

The low payers are the cards, 9 through to Ace, paying up to 6x for five on a line. Top payers are the donkey, axe, pick and shovel and the miner, paying out up to 25x for five on a line.

Finally there are chests and gold chests that act as wilds and scatters. They are key to unlocking the big wins.

Wild Falls 2 is awash with two free spins round, wilds and extended reels. It’s relentless stuff. Here is how those features play out.

Wild and Scatter Chests With Rapid Re-Spins

Look out for Chest symbols which come as standard or GOLD – these double-up as WILDS AND SCATTERS and only land on the middle reels – 2, 3 and 4.

In their Wild functions then sub in for all other symbols to create wins. But they also trigger RE SPINS where each chest symbol to land causes the reel it lands on to increase by one row, up to a maximum of 5 rows high.

Gold Rush With Wild Multipliers

The Gold Rush is a cool, random feature that drops at any point in the base game.

Now, ALL chests are GOLD and they come with MULTIPLIERS of between 2x and 5x for standard and re-spins. Combinations of multipliers can tally up to as much as 125x.

River of Gold Re-Spins

The standard free spins round is called River of Gold and is triggered by landing THREE standard chests on one spin. Here, you get an unlimited number of free spins that continue until NO MORE chests are visible on the reels.

Wild Falls – The obvious direct comparison here is with the original Wild Falls game which has a very similar gameplay and maths model. Wild Falls has the same 10/10 volatility, a marginally better RTP of 96.5%, a lower top payout of 15,000x. Wild Falls 2 definitely evolves the gameplay and those who enjoy expanding reels will like the sequel better. However, the original is still a great play and worth checking out.

Bonanza – the ultimate high variance mining slot is of course Big Time Gaming’s Bonanza. If you like the volatility cranked up to the max then this is the game for you. It offers a crazier ride than Wild Falls 2 with a higher RTP (96.48%) and a higher top prize (17,926x). The free spins round is notoriously difficult to crack but the mix of progressive multipliers and cascading wins is far more exciting when in full flow. 

The Final Verdict

Wild Falls 2 rounds the year off nicely for Play n Go a studio who have been in fine form in 2022. This is everything we would expect a sequel to be. It builds well on the original with a fine mix of the familiar and the new. The main addition here are the expanding reels which modernise the game nicely. To get the best wins you will need to trigger the Super River of Gold Free Spins round where the gold chest multipliers can increase to as much as 9x which when combined can create a 729x. Remember as well that with 5 rows to play with, the River of Gold Re-Spins is more lucrative as chests have further to drop, potentially increasing the multipliers further.

In short, Play n Go have done a great job of updating one of the stronger slots from their back catalogue and this will be well worth a spin on its release in December.
