About Shamrock Miner

For their October 2022 release, Swedish game studio, Play n Go, whose back catalogue includes classics like Reactoonz 1 and 2 and Book of Dead, draw inspiration from a classic source for slots developers – Irish luck. There is also a slight nod here to Big Time Gaming’s famous Bonanza slot with the mining theme and the expanding reels that come into play in the bonus round.

The action takes place on an Irish hillside with green grass and trees in the background. The 5×4 reel set sits in front of the entrance to a mine of some kind and the colorful rainbow sitting atop the screen completes the picture. The slightly cloudy skyline and the dark entrance to the mine give the whole slot a somewhat gloomy feel which surely wasn’t the intention!

Shamrock Miner comes out at UK slot sites in October 2022.

RTP and Variance 7/10

What is RTP?

RTP (Return to Player) refers to the amount a game will pay out in cash prizes expressed as a percentage of all the money wagered on that game. For example, a 96% RTP means a game will pay out £96 for every £100 wagered. This is an average number and will vary from one session to the next.  Read more here.

What is Variance?

Variance refers to how far a game will deviate from its RTP over time. High variance games deviate a lot and produce uneven win distributions and unexpected windfalls. Low variance games provide a more stable and even distribution of wins. Read more here.

The maths for Shamrock Miner is nothing spectacular. This is a mid-range game with a modest top payout. Here are those stats.

  • Shamrock Miner is a medium-high variance slot with a fairly even win distribution, but potential to pull off some big wins in the bonus round where the reel set expands and multipliers can hit 30x.
  • The RTP of Shamrock Miner is 96.25%.
  • The top win here is 5,000x.
  • The default minimum bet for Shamrock Miner is 12p.

Paytable 7/10

Here are the key numbers from the Shamrock Miner paytable.

  • Shamrock Miner is played on a 5 reel by 4 row grid with 12 paylines initially. New paylines are added in the bonus round if extra wilds are collected. You’ll need at least 3 identical symbols landing on paylines from left to right to score a win.
  • Low payers are the cards 10 through to Ace with a top payout of 10x for five on a payline.
  • Premium payers are the gemstones in blue, red, yellow and green, which pay out between 50x and 200x for five on a payline.
  • Wilds are represented by the Leprechaun figure and sub for all other symbols to complete paylines. They also trigger additional payouts when they land with the Cash symbols in base and bonus games.

Gameplay & Features 6/10

Here are the key features in Shamrock Miner slot.

BASE GAME: WILDS TRIGGER PAYOUTS WHEN CASH SYMBOLS LAND

  • Cash symbols land at any time during base and bonus rounds displaying a cash prize value. Their payout is triggered if a Wild lands on the same spin.
  • Look out as well for the Cash Multiplier value displayed to the left of the reel set which displays a value of between 1x and 10x on each spin

FREE SPINS COME WITH EXPANDING REELS AND RE-TRIGGERS

  • The free spins round is triggered by dynamite scatters – 3, 4 or 5 of them get you 10, 15 or 20 free spins.
  • Wilds and Cash Symbols perform as they do in the base game.
  • Wilds are collected in a Wild Meter above the reels.
  • Every 4 Wilds gets you 10 more free spins.
  • The Cash Multiplier value can go as high as 30x once 4 Wilds have been collected.
  • For every 4 Wilds collected, another row is added to the reels, up to a maximum of 7 high. This adds 5 more paylines and more chances of winning with each additional row.

Our Verdict 6.6/10

Shamrock Miner is a somewhat underwhelming slot and the comparisons with Big Time Gaming’s epic Bonanza Megaways™ game end with the mining theme and the expanding reels. The features here are relatively basic with just the simple Wild / Cash symbol combo to live up an otherwise prosaic base game. The one redeeming feature is the bonus round because there is potential for this to produce some fairly hefty wins if you can land a good number of wilds in your first 10 spins. Pushing up the multiplier towards a 30x and adding a few more rows to your reel set is going to put you in touching distance of that 5,000x top win if you are lucky.

Shamrock Miner will appeal to those who like traditional slots (you don’t get much more traditional than the Irish theme) with simple features. But if you want something with a bit more teeth, you could try another recent Play n Go release, the shark-themed Mega Don, which offers a much higher 10,000x top win and runs at a higher variance.
