How We Review Slot GamesWe test and rate all slot games across 5 criteria, assigning a score out of 10 for each and an overall score that is an average of the 5. To build an accurate assessment of each game we gather information from the supplier and play in real play or demo mode. Find out more.
Just in time for Halloween 2022, Play n Go delivered this super-simple 3 reeler with just 5 paylines, featuring a humorous version of the famous Count, wearing a Joker’s hat and sporting manic green and evil shining eyes! He looks more like the recent incarnation from the BBC series than any of the timeless classics from the movies. Either way, this time around he is donning the classic joker’s garb that tells us this is one of Play n Go’s Joker series that includes games like Fire Joker, Sticky Joker and Mystery Joker.
In terms of gameplay, this is a really simple slot that looks like it might deliver some impressive win sequences propelled forward by re-spins and sticky joker symbols.

Theme & Design
Our Score 9
Count Jokula does a great job of mixing up the Joker and Dracula themes, playing on the humorous cartoon version of the count rather than the sinister original from books and movies. With a dramatic ‘welcome to my lair’, the count welcomes you in to his 3 reel, 3 row game set.
Weird little bats and lemons with teeth (!!) join him on the reels alongside the usual array of fruit symbols. Whilst in the background a spooky, 60s Dracula theme tune plays – you’ll know it when you hear it!
With great graphics and a light-hearted feel, this is a fun, upbeat and original addition to the Joker series.
RTP and Variance
Our Score 7
What is RTP?RTP (Return to Player) refers to the amount a game will pay out in cash prizes expressed as a percentage of all the money wagered on that game. For example, a 96% RTP means a game will pay out £96 for every £100 wagered. This is an average number and will vary from one session to the next. Read more here.
What is Variance?Variance refers to how far a game will deviate from its RTP over time. High variance games deviate a lot and produce uneven win distributions and unexpected windfalls. Low variance games provide a more stable and even distribution of wins. Read more here.
Count Jokula may run on one of FIVE different RTP settings: 96.22%, 94.23%, 91.23%, 87.23% or 84.23%. Which you play at is at the discretion of your casino. We checked four popular sites to find out what RTP setting they were running at. This is what we found:
- Casumo (independent): 94.23%
- MrPlay (Aspire Global): 87.24%
- BacanaPlay (Skill on Net): 91.23%
- PlayGrand (White Hat Gaming): 94.25%
Whilst none of the sites we checked ran Count Jokula at the optimum RTP setting, Casumo showed itself to be the best option to get the best returns on your wagering. You should always check the RTP for yourself before spinning for real. You can do this in the game information screen once you’ve loaded up the game.
Count Jokular is a medium variance slot so it has a more even distribution of wins than a game like their famous Book of Dead or the recent Mega Don which run at a higher volatility.
Our Score 8
What Is Maximum Win?Maximum win refers to the maximum amount a player can win from one spin. It is expressed as a multiple of the stake. For example, where the maximum win is 100,000x, from a £1 stake, the maximum win would be £100,000.
The maximum win on Count Jokular is 8,350x. This is good for a medium variance game though it doesn’t come close to some of the big payouts you can find in other Play n Go slots like Hooligan Hustle (10,000x) or Kiss Reels of Rock (50,000x).

Symbols and Paytable
Our Score 8
You will be hoping you spend a lot of time staring at the Count’s smiley face in this slot as he is key to unlocking the big win sequences. Wins are scored across the lines by landing 3 identical symbols from left to right.
The low payers are classic fruit machine symbols – lemons, grapes, cherries and plums which have a value of just 0.4x to 1x.
Top payers are the thematic comical bats, daggers and chalices. These are valued from 1.4x to 4x.
But best of all are the Joker Wilds – the Count himself – valued at 50x and available to sub in for any other symbol to create a win. They also trigger re-spins and multipliers as described below.
Features and Gameplay
Our Score 8
The Count is keeping things simple with a little shapeshifting here and some progressive multiplier / re-spin action there.
Here is how the two features work.
Bats Shapeshifting Into Wilds!
In the novel that spawned a thousand or more cultural events, Dracula can of course shapeshift on a whim from aged man to bat and back again. Here, the bats are shifting into Wilds instead.
So, if you hit a spin with NO WINS but a bat symbol lands on the reels then the bat becomes a Joker Wild only IF it creates a win in doing so.
This can also lead to the main event feature described next.
Re-Spins of Evil With Progressive Multipliers
The re-spins might be named ‘evil’ but they are your best chance of hitting a winning run getting up towards that 8,350x top payout.
If a win is triggered in which a Joker Wild is involved on the middle reel then you get ONE RESPIN. The Joker Wild remains locked in place for the re-spin.
You will also notice a Multiplier Trail displayed above the reels. For each re-spin the trail lights up further and your multiplier increases by 1x. This continues up to a maximum of 20x although the re-spins can carry on for up to 25 times.
The current multiplier value is always applied to any wins and Joker Wilds lock in place for the entire re-spins sequence.
More Games Like Count Jokular
Dracula – There are many Dracula slots you can play but this is one of our favourites. It suits all players because it runs on a low variance with an even win distribution. Its top win is lower than Count Jokula at just 3,750x, but it has more features. In the free spins round, all wins are TRIPLED and the Pick Me Bonus reveals lots of instant win prizes. The RTP is less than Jokula at just 95.06%.
Dracula Awakening – for something more serious you could try Dracula Awakening from Red Tiger with a higher variance and 30 active paylines. This one comes with four extra features including Mega Wilds which stick during the free spins round and a Dracula bite mode in which Dracula turns other symbols wild to increase your chances of wins. The Final Verdict
Our Score 8.0
If you are a fan of the Joker series from Play n Go, or just straight-forward 3×3 slots then you will love Count Jokula. The shapeshifting bats are a fun modification to the base game but really this slot is all about hitting those re-spins. There is little to think about beyond that, so just focus on landing the Joker Wilds in the middle reel. It is unusual to find a medium variance game with a top payout beyond 5,000x so Jokula’s potential suggests this game may surprise a few people with some hefty prizes.
Of course, if you prefer feature-packed high-risk gameplay this slot won’t appeal to you. If that’s you then we suggest you head over to our No Limit City slots page where things get much riskier!
