Blackjack City - Our Verdict

Blackjack City is a casino on the popular White Hat Gaming platform. It positions itself as a site for table game fans with live dealer front and centre including direct links to high stakes blackjack tables from the home page. Curiously, there is little in the way of live dealer-centric promos or high roller bonuses to back that up, which feels like a missed opportunity.

The site will appeal to those who like the security and reliability of the White Hat Gaming label, a UK-license holder established in 2012, and those who prioritise an expansive and high-quality game catalogue, including 1,000s of slots, when searching for their next casino. In our review Blackjack City performed well in most areas, although an underwhelming sign-up offer and the surprising omission of a loyalty or VIP program brought the score down.

Here is the full scorecard from our review with notes on each category. You can view a detailed breakdown of the scores by attributes for each category further down this page.

CategoryScoreNotes
Sign Up Offer and Bonuses5.5/10A fair 'no wager' free spins sign up offer, regular daily bonuses and prize draws but no loyalty or VIP program
Games and Software7.8/10Massive selection of games including over 4,000 slots and live tables
Website and App Experience7.2/10Basic design and branding but a good functional website
Banking8/10Good choice of payment options and speedy withdrawals subject to verification, but £20 min transaction
Customer Support8.5/1024/7 live chat and email, some slow response times but overall a good service
Safety, Security, Player Protection9.4/10UK-license, responsible gambling tools, games audited for fairness

And here in summary are the key strengths and weaknesses of Blackjack City based on our research.

Strengths

  • Excellent game catalogue – you can’t argue with the game list put together by White Hat Gaming. The live tables are from Evolution and Pragmatic Play and over 4,000 slots come courtesy of more than 100 top name providers.
  • A trusted operator – White Hat Gaming are well-known in the UK and their sites include names like The Grand Ivy, Temple Nile and 247Bet. Their UK license ensures safety, security and fair play.
  • Daily bonus wheel - once you have made one deposit you are entitled to try your luck on the bonus wheel once a day. Most tries will qualify you for a free spins or deposit match bonus offer.
  • Nice website and app – the website looks modern and it’s very easy to find your way around. The app offers the full Blackjack City experience and can be downloaded and installed in under a minute.
  • Wide choice of payments – all the big names including Paypal and Apple Pay are available with no fees.

Weaknesses

  • No loyalty program – almost all White Hat Gaming sites have a loyalty program so I was surprised to find out that Blackjack City does not, particularly when it tries to appeal to the high-spending card players.
  • £20 minimum deposit – I prefer to be able to try a site out with a £10 deposit but that is not possible here. You need to put in £20 to qualify for the sign up deal too.
  • Slow response on live chat – I found that even outside of busy hours the wait times on live chat were sometimes 10 minutes or more.

How Does Blackjack City Score on Trustpilot and Other Review Sites?

Blackjack City is still a relatively new site so it does not have much coverage across forums and consumer review sites. On Trustpilot there is just 1 review (a 1 star from a disgruntled player). On Ask Gamblers it scores 7.5/10 on the site’s CasinoRank algorithm which considers all aspects of the player experience including game list, payments, support and site design. I could find no reference to the site on the popular Casinomeister forum.

Sign Up Offer and Bonuses

AttributeScoreNotes
Sign Up Offer25/40A fair free spins deal with winnings in cash but no deposit bonus and a £20 min deposit
Loyalty Program0/30No loyalty program
Other Rewards and Promos30/30A daily bonus wheel with spins and match bonuses, cash prize draws and ad-hoc offers
Overall Score55/100

Blackjack City didn't score well in this area because the promotions program is a little underwhelming compared to that found at other White Hat Gaming sites. I like the ‘no wager’ free spins sign up deal but it has a high bar to entry at £20 considering you only get 50 spins. And it would be better if complimented by a deposit match. For regular players the daily bonus wheel is a nice treat and worth popping in for to see if you can win yourself some spins or a match bonus each day. But I’m surprised that there is no loyalty program here where you can exchange points for rewards. That’s a big omission in my book.

Sign Up Offer Terms

This is a very simple deal - you only have to meet the deposit and wagering thresholds of £20 and £10 respectively to qualify. The free spins pay out cash prizes so there are no wagering requirements attached - you can wager or withdraw your winnings as you please. The only catch is that your winnings are capped at £100.

Is This A Good Deal?

This is simple deal with a low threshold to qualify, giving you ‘no wager’ free spins on a popular slot. However, if falls short of what you can get at rival sites. For example, at Kwiff Casino you can get 200 ‘no wager’ free spins on Book of Dead, or at Play OJO  you can get 80 ‘no wager’ free spins on Big Bass Bonanza. Both offers give you more chances to win.

Daily Bonus Wheel

Anyone who has a verified account and has made a deposit is eligible to spin the daily bonus wheel, a prize wheel which awards bonuses and free spins. Some of these require a deposit to trigger the bonus, but not all.

Daily Bonus Wheel at Blackjack City

The bonus wheel can be opened from the main navigation once you are logged in and it pops up in a neat window in front of the main site. It’s nicely designed and shows a counter counting down to the next time you can spin the wheel.

Blackjack Bonus

In keeping with the theme of the site there is a Blackjack bonus awarded any time you hit 3 blackjacks on the Evolution Gaming tables in the same day. That gets you a £15 bonus that comes with the standard 10x wagering requirements. You won’t be able to meet those wagering requirements playing blackjack – only slots, scratchcards and keno count towards the total.

Daily, Weekly and Monthly Prize Draws

Blackjack City also run 3 prize draws, pooled with players from across the White Hat Gaming network - you will find the same prize draws on each of the other sites in this group as well. Each draw requires you to earn tickets by depositing and wagering, and you’ll notice the thresholds are high, so these are built for the big spenders. The prize pools are £500 per week, £10,000 per month and £30,000 per year.

Wagering Requirements at Blackjack City

All bonuses at Blackjack City are subject to the new maximum wagering requirements set by the UK Gambling Commission. Here’s how they look:

  • Deposit Bonus: 10x bonus
  • Free Spins: 10x winnings
  • Max Bet With Bonus Funds: £5
  • Game Weightings: Slots, Scratchcards and Keno: 100%; all other games: 0%

NOTE: A useful feature of the account area is a wagering progress bar that shows you how far you have to go to complete your wagering requirements, expressed as a percentage.

The game catalogue at Blackjack City is massive. It’s not just about the live tables, there is a huge selection of slots too including video slots, Megaways and jackpots. Catalogue and Game Providers

Blackjack City features games from over 100 providers, including the biggest names in the industry alongside niche developers and up and coming studios breaking onto the scene. It’s an impressive list generating a staggering variety of games from classic slots and low stakes causal games to ground-breaking live gameshows and VIP blackjack tables. There is something here for everyone.

Game Menu, Search and Filter Options

The game menu at Blackjack City is simple but it has some nice features that I like. At the top level it allows you to search by categories like blackjack, roulette, slots, jackpots, Megaways or poker. There is also a High Stakes category which suggests this casino is hoping to pull in the big punters. If you like putting big bets down you'll be guided to the right tables. There are also options to search by game provider or game name, or by new releases.

The best parts are the personalised areas. I can return to Recently Played games, and even save a game to my Favourites so I can easily find it again. That’s important for me as I don’t like scrolling through lots of game logos trying to find one I was playing last week.

A few more filters like volatility level, RTP rate or max win would be nice here, but overall I like how this casino has approached its game menu.

Online Slots

As I said, Blackjack City leads with the tables, but look closer and you'll find much for fans of the reels too. There are more than 4,500 slots listed covering every reel format, pay model and theme you can think of. The list covers iconic classics as well as the latest releases. You can explore the menu using the ‘slots’ link from the main navigation using the hamburger icon at the top of the page. Or go via the filters at the top of the game list. This brings up a list of 4,528 slots at the time of writing.

Here are some highlights I've picked out to give a flavour of what's on offer:

Classic slots – 100s of iconic titles including all-time favourites like Starburst, Book of Dead, Dead or Alive and Immortal Romance.

Slot series – popular series featuring familiar characters and themes like Nitropolis, Money Train, Hotline, Jack Hammer, Reactoonz, The Dog House, Big Bass and Fishin Frenzy.

High variance slots – super volatile games with huge max wins like Tombstone Slaughter, Max Megaways, San Quentin 2: Death Row, Jammin Jars 2 and Razor Returns.

Megaways slots – over 100 games with 100,000s paylines including Bonanza Megaways, The Goonies Megaways, Cleopatra Megaways and The Great Gatsby Megaways.

New slots – fresh games are added on a regular basis, listed under ‘New’ in the menu. They include Zeus Ze Second (Hacksaw Gaming), 9k Yeti Gold (4ThePlayer), Olympus 7’s Dream Drop (Relax Gaming) and Rise of Olympus 1000 (Play n Go).

High RTP slots – if you want to play slots with a higher payout rate and get more back on your wagering you can try 1429 Unchartered Seas by Thunderkick (98.6% RTP), Book of 99 by Relax Gaming (99% RTP), Marching Legions by Relax Gaming (98.12% RTP) or Money Cart 2 by Relax Gaming (98% RTP).

Slots RTP Settings at Blackjack City

It is very common now for casino operators to dial down the RTP settings for slot games when the game provider makes it possible. Sometimes you’ll find a game running at less than 90% which is not acceptable. I always spot check a few well-known games when I review a casino to see what RTP rate they are set to. Here are 5 slots I looked at from the Blackjack City list. Each was set to around 94% which is a little under their optimum rates of c. 96%, but its still higher than I have seen at other casinos.

Hand of Anubis (Hacksaw Gaming) – 94.32%
Serial (Nolimit City) – 94.08%
Big Bass Bonanza (Pragmatic Play) – 94.02%
Scroll of Dead (Play n Go) – 94.28%
Reactoonz 2 (Play n Go) – 94.2%

Find out more about RTP in our explainer guide.

Jackpot Slots

I am impressed with the progressive jackpot selection at Blackjack City. There are more than 100 jackpot slots to choose from, covering 5 of the biggest networks. That means lots of ways to spin for a life changing win.

  1. Dream Drop from Relax Gaming (seeded at £1,000,000)
  2. Mega Moolah from Games Global (seeded at £2,000,000)
  3. King Millions from Games Global (seeded at £2,000,000)
  4. WowPot from Games Global (seeded at £2,000,000)
  5. Jackpot Kings from Blueprint Gaming (seeded at £500,000)

If you want to shoot for the big prizes your best option is the famous Mega Moolah, seeded at £2,000,000 and occasionally producing payouts of over £10,000,000. There are 17 games on which you can try to win the Mega Jackpot, including Agent Jane Blonde Mega Moolah and Break Da Bank Again Mega Moolah.

For me, the Dream Drop games are the better choice. There are over 50 on this network, many created by Relax Gaming whose style I prefer. Although the prizes don’t climb to the same dizzy heights as the Mega Moolahs – they are capped at £2,000,000 - games like the Asian-themed Neko Nights Dream Drop and cartoon-style Space Attacks Dream Drop look more modern and stylish in my opinion.

Live Dealer

Front and centre of the experience at Blackjack City is the live casino, powered by Evolution Gaming, Pragmatic Play and On Air Entertainment. That gives you a huge choice with 100s of tables and many different versions of blackjack, roulette, baccarat, sic bo, poker and live gameshows to try. The live game lobbies for each provider are really easy to navigate and you can filter by game type or stake to find a table to suit you.

Here are some highlights from the live experience.

Live Blackjack – 100s of tables with stakes from 50p up to £1,500 per hand. You can play classic blackjack or speed blackjack with side bets including Perfect Pairs and 21+3.

Live Roulette – alongside European roulette are gameshow versions like Lighting Roulette and Fireball Roulette where extra multipliers are applied to wins on some numbers in each game.

Sweet Bonanza Candyland – a gameshow version of Pragmatic Play’s classic slot featuring a 54 segment prize wheel and 4 bonus rounds including Candy Drop and Sweet Spins that can trigger wins of up to 20,000x.

Monopoly Live – Evolution Gaming bring the classic board game to the live studio with a prize wheel with multiplier wins and a 3-d version of the monopoly board, unlocked via the bonus round.

Live Poker – play against the house in this classic card game in Caribbean stud, Texas Hold Em and 2 Hand Casino Hold Em formats.

Table Games

If you prefer the virtual versions of table games then there is small selection for you to try too. However, they are mixed in with the live games so they are quite hard to pick out. I did spot Iron Dog’s 3D Blackjack and Baccarat, Microgaming’s Classic Blackjack and Switch Studio’s Classic Blackjack Side Bet Suite and Atlantic City Blackjack.

Slingos

For fans of Slingo there is a list of around 50 titles to choose from. These include classic Slingos that follow the original format that mixes up slots and bingo, and recent versions in partnership with iconic slots brands featuring bonus rounds from the games like Slingo Starburst, Book of Slingo and Slingo Cleopatra.

Other Games

Outside of the most popular game categories there is a selection of instant win or ‘casual’ games that include Plinkos, scratchcards, crash games, video poker and dice games. There is no filter for these so unless you know what you are looking for, you might not find them. They offer something different with lower stakes and less intense gambling.

Blackjack City is well-designed and easy to navigate. It uses a nice mix of black, charcoal grey and gold colouring as well as card suit motifs in the background. The vibe is classic casino, leaning into the table game image of smartly dressed VIPs and croupiers in black tie. It definitely looks more like a blackjack or roulette players casino.

Blackjack City Homepage

I found sign up and depositing very easy to do, taking around 3 minutes without any extra verification checks. And all the important information like the license number, responsible gambling advice, terms and conditions and complaints procedure were all accessible via the site footer.

Download The Mobile App

Blackjack City is also available on an app from the App Store for iPhone. There is no Android version. It takes seconds to download and features the full suite of games via the same log in as the desktop site. You need iOS version 13.0 or later for the app to work.

How Fast Are Withdrawals at Blackjack City?

On the Blackjack City site it says that withdrawals will take a minimum of 24 hours to process. However, I have made withdrawals from White Hat Gaming sites like this one that are much quicker than that, sometimes taking just a few hours, subject to verification.

You may have to wait longer outside of office hours. It is not clear on the website whether the team processes payments at weekends or overnight. As a guide I would say that you can expect at the absolute maximum to wait up to 72 for your withdrawal to be approved.

Once your withdrawal has been approved, it will be down to your payment provider to make the funds available. eWallets are faster here, usually processing instantly. Banks can take anything up to a few days.

Know Your Customer (KYC) Checks

Blackjack City are required under the terms of their gambling license to carry out KYC checks on all their customers to prevent fraud, underage gambling and problem gambling. Here’s what you can expect:

  1. On registration – ‘soft’ checks happen behind the scenes using 3rd party verification services that match up the details you use on the sign-up form with publicly held data. If the data matches, your registration is cleared. If not, you may be asked to provide proof of your ID and address. At this stage, the operator is simply checking to see that you are who you say you are and your address is right.
  2. On deposit or withdrawal – further checks are carried out when a customer reaches deposit and withdrawal thresholds, usually around £1,000. These will require you to send photos or scans of one of more of the documents listed below. This is a further check to verify your age, ID and address as well as your source of funds.
  3. Triggered by playing patterns - further checks may be carried out at different times if your pattern of play demands it. Betting operators need to be sure you are spending within your means and they may ask for proof of the source of your gambling funds again.

What Documents Will I Need To Provide?

You may asked to provide any of the following:

  • Driver license or Passport - for ID and age
  • Utility bill - for address
  • Bank statement - for address
  • Pay slip - for proof of source of funds
  • Debit card - for proof of ownership

You can upload your documents via the ‘Upload Your Identity Documents’ link on the My Details page of your account. I uploaded documents to verify my ID and address and they were approved within a few hours.

Support at Blackjack City is by live chat and email only. There is no phone support. Live chat is available 24/7 and, in my experience, you do not have to deal with any AI chat bots before being put through to a real agent which I think is good.

Contacting Support

  • Email (24/7)support@blackjackcity.com
  • Live Chat (24/7) – via the ‘Contact Us’ link – click on ‘Live Chat’
  • Phone Support – Not available
  • FAQs – via the ‘Contact Us’ link – head to the ‘Help Center’

You also have the option to refer to a very comprehensive set of FAQs divided by subject matter like deposits, verification, bonuses and responsible gambling. There are many articles covering these subject in depth and it can be a good port of call before you load up live chat.

I’ve never had problems with the support team at White Hat Gaming sites. However, I have noticed recently that queuing times in live chat have got longer. Response times used to always be under 5 minutes, but now I regularly wait 10 or 15 minutes, even outside of peak times. I find that very frustrating and hope the operator improves this aspect of their service soon.
