Big Time Gaming was established in 2012 in Sydney Australia, under the leadership of CEO Nik Robinson and CTO Huw Mcintosh and Creative Director Ian Schmidt. Their innovative approach to game development led them to create the Megaways™ game mechanic which catapulted the studio to fame with the release of Bonanza Megaways™ in 2016. They have gone onto build a catalogue of more than 60 games including many more Megaways™ titles, grid slots, cluster pays games and progressive jackpots.
BTG was acquired by Evolution Gaming in a deal reported to be worth up to £389 million back in 2021. They continue to be one of the most progressive and innovative studios out there.
Here are some things to look out for when you explore the BTG catalogue.
The Megaways™ Revolution
Megaways™ is the probably biggest innovation in online slots in the last decade. The game engine uses a random reel modifier to change the number of rows on each reel on every spin. Combined with a win ways pay format this can create many 100,000s of win ways per spin. Bonanza Megaways™ was the first game with this mechanic to really grab attention and it remains one of the most popular slots at UK casinos. But there are now 100s more thanks to BTGs own production line and licensing deals struck with many other slot providers who utilise the engine in their own game development.
Fun and Exciting Themes
Like all the best studios out there, BTG are highly creative when it comes to slot themes and narrative. They cover everything from retro arcade action in Trigger Happy to dancefloor mayhem in Danger! High Voltage, classic boardgames in Monopoly Megaways and fishing in Golden Catch. And lots, lots more.
Rock ‘n’ Roll Soundtracks
Inspired by the management team’s love of classic 80s rock music, BTG have a series of games that feature soundtracks from bands of that era. The Cult are a particular favourite and their music appears in games like Lil Devil and Outlaw. You’ll also hear stadium rockers, Europe, in The Final Countdown and heavy metal band, Dio, in Holy Diver. No one does rock n roll slots quite like BTG!
High Variance and High Maximum Wins
Along with studios like Nolimit City, Push Gaming and Relax Gaming, BTG have earned a reputation for high wire thrills in their slots. That means high risk-high reward gambling with many frustrating spins but massive win potential too. You’ll find at least 3 games with over 100,000x top prizes in the BTG list – Max Megaways 2 (147,620x), Max Megaways (139,200x) and Wild Flower (114,100x) – with more to come no doubt.
Good RTPs
Return to Player rates in BTG slots are generally very good. Unlike many rivals, they rarely release a game with more than one RTP setting, and most come in at around 96% to 96.5%. That means wherever you play you can expect a fair crack at coming away with a positive balance. Although I should add, with those crazy volatility levels, the journey is never an easy one!
Megapays Jackpots
BTG have also created their own progressive jackpot, the Megapays™ game (what else?!) There are five jackpots to be won on each game in the network – Mini (£100 seed), Midi (£1,500 seed), Major (£20,000 seed) or Mega (£300,000 seed). You can find this on a number of their best slots including The Great Pigsby Megapays™, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire Megapays™ and Star Clusters Megapays™.
