How We Review Slot Games
We test and rate all slot games across 5 criteria, assigning a score out of 10 for each and an overall score that is an average of the 5. To build an accurate assessment of each game we gather information from the supplier and play in real play or demo mode. Find out more.Disco Danny from NetEnt is a simple, disco dancing slot game with a funky 70s-style design and featuring a Travolta-esque main character who simply loves to … dance! Those who enjoy dancefloor-themed games like Push Gaming‘s famous Jammin Jars, will like this one, though its a much simpler affair, trading off it’s red, gold and purple colour scheme and catchy, pumping house soundtrack rather than any sophisticated gameplay or features.
Just like a big night amongst the strobes and smoke, the name of the game with Disco Danny is to get your head down and lock in to some serious spins without distractions. As we shall see, this one is all about unlocking just one main feature and hoping you can push up the multiplier values to hit top payout.
Disco Danny arrived on the scene back in late summer 2020. Let’s find out more.

What Our Reviewer Says ...
"A fun little slot with a funky theme and character and a straight-forward goal, but let down but its low potential."
Overall Score: 7.0
RTP and Variance
Our Score 8
What is RTP?
RTP (Return to Player) refers to the amount a game will pay out in cash prizes expressed as a percentage of all the money wagered on that game. For example, a 96% RTP means a game will pay out £96 for every £100 wagered. This is an average number and will vary from one session to the next. Read more here. What is Variance?
Variance refers to how far a game will deviate from its RTP over time. High variance games deviate a lot and produce uneven win distributions and unexpected windfalls. Low variance games provide a more stable and even distribution of wins. Read more here. The RTP of Disco Danny is 96.04%. That makes it about average for a NetEnt video slot. For better returns you should try a game like Blood Suckers (98% RTP) or Zombies (997.2%).
Disco Danny is a highly volatile game which means you may experience a very uneven win distribution. Unfortunately, NetEnt didn’t match this with a high win potential which is very unusual. Most high variance slots come with a very high top payout. Check out Silverback Gold (high variance, 45,126x top win) or Space Wars Powerpoints (high variance, 10,020x top win) for example. Instead, the top payout here is just 3,333x which is one of the reasons the game hasn’t soared in popularity since its release.
Symbols and Paytable
Our Score 7
Against a backdrop of bright pinks and other primary colors, switching to reds and oranges for the bonus round, the reel set in Disco Danny floats above the dancefloor. In looks its not totally dissimilar to Big Time Gaming’s Star Clusters whilst the paytable symbols are very much in the classic fruit machine style. Here are the highlights of the paytable.
- This is a simple 3×3 game with just FIVE fixed paylines in play.
- Wins are triggered by landing three identical symbols on a payline from left to right.
- The bar symbols have the lowest value with just 0.6x your bet up to 3x your bet. Next along the paytable are the lucky 7s and roller skates, which can pay 4x and 6x your bet respectively.
- The highest paying symbol is Disco Danny himself in his striking outfits, who pays up to 100x your bet for 3 on a payline. You could land a full screen of these –Â a Danny(?) – and hit a 500x win.
- Gold and silver scatters make up the symbol selection and are requited to trigger the free spins round.
You can play Disco Danny from 10p per spin.
Features and Gameplay
Our Score 7
Simple and to the point – that is the way Disco Danny rolls. Just keep spinning and hoping for glitter balls to keep the wins coming in. Here is how it works:
Silver and Golden Glitter Balls Light The Way!
The two scatters, silver and gold glitter balls, unlock the free spins round. Golden Balls also trigger random instant win prizes when they land so look out for them on their own.
If three silvers OR two silvers and one gold land simultaneously, then you’ll enter the bonus feature.
Free Spins Round
During the free spins round, only the scatters stay on the reels. The scatters that triggered the round will lock into place and you get 3 free spins to try to hit more of these disco balls. Any further scatters that appear during these free spins will also lock into position and the spin counter will reset to award another 3 free spins.
These free spins continue until you have either filled the screen with scatters or all free spins run out and you don’t reset the counter. The scatters can award multipliers of 1x to 50x and these will all be combined to receive your overall total win.
If you manage to fill the screen with scatters, you’ll trigger a new level where all your wins are doubled. There are 5 levels to climb in total with up to 10x multipliers available on the highest level.
This bonus feature only ends when you either complete level 5 or run out of free spins.

The Final Verdict
Disco Danny is a fun slot for fans of the disco music theme and simple gameplay at a high volatility level.
This game split opinion in the slots community. Understandably, those who enjoy high variance gaming expect big potential and for that reason many feel Disco Danny is a bit of a damp squib. However, those who are patient with it have found that the bonus round can be a bit of a roller-coaster and offer some good thrills. It has the potential to quickly escalate as you move up the levels and with 50x multipliers available there is always the chance of scoring a pretty decent win, though getting to that level is of course tough.
Ultimately, it comes down to taste. We enjoyed it because it is much simpler than many of the new high risk games coming out from studios like No Limit City. Disco Danny offers good old-fashioned slots fun with a great soundtrack and a winning smile!
